Re: AGM Battery Discussion

Jim,
Try this: disconnect the battery, fully charge it, check the voltage every couple of days. After a few days connect it back up and try to start it. See if this works out any different from leaving it connected. Make sure the time spans are the same.

Re: Yamaha Street Bike Demo

That was my problem with the gold wing, too wide The new Gold Wing feels narrower than the old one. It also dropped a lot of weight, but reduced storage capacity. And now it has a new fork that gives it some of the same attributes as the BMW, but the design is "different." The suspension ...

Re: Riding, Camping Caving - hmu if you curious

Do I follow correctly that you are planning to do a bike trip down and back to do some park recon well ahead of the March date?

Re: BBQ anyone?

I rode last Sunday, about 150 miles or so. Checked it on Wednesday and the gauge was showing 12.1 volts. I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. I threw it on the charger for a while and then it started right up. I hate AGM. I don't know what your bike is doing but we have 4 bikes with AGM batte...

Re: Eleven Motorsports

I'm sure if you have to ask their rates you can't afford them. I may head down there as an excuse to go for a ride. I saw that as part of the open house they are doing an open track day on the 1.7, don't have to be a member but non-members will pay $300 which seems pretty steep.

Eleven Motorsports

https://elevenms.com/ This place will take care of your track bike for you, including storage between events, or you can rent a bike from their fleet. For away events they will transport your bike. Haven't heard of them before. They don't seem to list membership rates. They are having an open house...

I'd like to go, but I have a work pop-up that I'm dealing with this morning. I'll try to make time to go on the official ride next weekend.

RS 30 minute sessions

Went to the RS event on the 1.3 at Cresson today. They switched to 30 minute sessions. I actually like it a lot better. Having an hour between sessions makes the day feel a lot less hectic. Don't know yet if it will be permanent.

Re: Most recent purchase thread!

Yeah. I wanted more stopping power. You don't think the extra 25lbs of rotating, unsprung weight would be a problem, would it?

Re: 3:16 TrackDays MSRC 1.3 Sept 2nd

I was there riding. Were you on a corner? On that day they ran the 1 hour sessions. It wasn't as bad as I had feared. You go out for 15 or 20 minutes, take a 5 or 10 minute brake, go out again. You don't feel like you need to be out there at the start of the session, waiting in the sun with the othe...

Re: BBQ anyone?

Chemically, AGM batteries are just lead-acid. In theory, AGM batteries should hold up better against sulfation than flooded batteries, but can be more sensitive to overcharging. So maybe that's the issue you guys are having. Using resting voltage to measure state of charge is problematic. A resting ...

Re: BBQ anyone?

I bought it in April and replaced it in May because it died. I thought I might have a parasitic draw, but I check it daily for a week and it only lost 0.02 volts. I'm wondering if maybe the bike isn't overcharging the battery while riding. It is possible. There are ways to check it. There are also ...

How old was it? And are you sure you don't have some sort of parasitic draw? The Ninja sits longer than that sometimes and it has an AGM battery.

You know, if you actually ride the bikes, the batteries tend to last longer.

Re: Sport Rider Coaching 8/23

I like the looks of the changes in blue. The upper left in the picture is the main change in the layout. Coming downhill out of 4 will be fast, and it looked like some positive camber going into the right-hand at 5. Going through 6 to 7 to 8 the radii decrease at each corner. I think the back strai...

Re: Sport Rider Coaching 8/23

The track is awesome. Right now the front course is all that is open. It is the grey part in the picture. ECR_New.jpg Taking the cross-over from 4 through 5C is very fast but it has a big elevation change, down then back up and then down again to 13. At speed it is an interesting experience. Just su...

It is likely decent right now. Whether it holds up or not is another question.
