Just FYI for anyone planning on attending - from the meet up posting:

"Going to try something a little different for our ride this weekend. Rather than a strict follow the leader style ride, it will be more of a ride your own pace and the group will meet up at each turn point so nobody is left behind. Ride distance will be approximately 100 miles ending around noon at Rudy's."

eh, it's essentially what we do on an intermediate or advanced ride.

I posted it up simply to pass on the expectation, many people will see the ride date / time and not read the details so just trying to manage expectations for those that are going and may not be paying attention.

I think the only current active riding FWMR peeps that have experienced this type of style is myself and Jim so again just wanted to highlight this for those going to avoid a surprise, nothing more and nothing less.

This is how I have done advanced rides, I have not lead an intermediate using that style before (but my gut says intermediates before my time were probably most likely advanced pace?). This method can work fine if you have the right people on the right roads.

Yeah, Intermediate rides often got pretty brisk, and you'd loose direct line of sight with the ride leader quite often but they'd always wait at intersections to make sure everyone made the turn.

race watching will be at Rudy's.

regarding the 'format'- you guys have nailed it. I just want to get down a little bit and I know some others do as well, nothing crazy but i am going to run a pace in spots that i know some people will not be able to hold. This has been the style of the vast majority of the rides i have done in my life and it works out fine. the fast guys will break away and be out of sight in a corner or two so the 'hang on' factor is usually broken immediately. this will only happen in certain sections (road to Ida) and no one will be left behind.

hope you guys can make it, should be fun and the turnout with the dfw sport boys is usually pretty good.

This sounds like a heart-pounding, total focus, hell of a fun ride! Wish I could make it!

it was just a pretty normal ride. even if some folks go ballistic (which did not happen today), it will not really change the dynamic of the group. please do not hesitate to join the rides in the future that are set up the same way-- it will not be a big deal, I promise.

turns out that my spidey sense was firing off, the ground was damp and it did sprinkle a little bit so... i took off a few corners hard but never broke away or anything. we just floated along as normal and everything was cool. ultimately, the pace was moderate at best but we did have a good time. at least i did.

Shane, I would like to speak with you this week about what medical classes you think would be most beneficial for riding. I did cpr/first aid last week but am looking for something a little more trauma related. last real medical training I had was in the 90s so I am out of date and out of practice.

thanks for coming out Jim, see you next time.

It was a good ride. Thanks for leading, Mike.

I ran into a bit of misting on the way home, but nothing heavy. Looks like I just missed the rain as the roads were wet.

I think CPR and First Aid are great first steps. Last time we were talking about trauma/accident scene etc. I asked my son who volunteers as a firefighter, works as an EMT and is in a paramedic program. He schooled me on scene safety, triage, and trauma protocols...left me feeling a bit inadequate. I have worked with trauma surgeons that are great in the OR, but I think it's those guys that are on the scene every day who would be the ones to talk to. I have also been impressed by combat medics, you know, guys that do whatever is needed to save lives.
