Yamaha and BMW Demos upcoming

Post by JeffStrom » Wed Mar 20, 2019 9:35 am

Tooner guilt-ed me into actually posting this stuff

YAMAHA

Friday, March 22, 2019 - Saturday, March 23, 2019
Maxim Motorsport, North Central Texas Yamaha
420 Central Expressway, Allen, TX 75013
Ph: 972-359-0202
Friday - Saturday - Time: 10:00AM to 5:00PM – verify times with dealer

Friday, March 29, 2019 - Saturday, March 30, 2019
FREEDOM POWERSPORTS OF HURST
633 NE LOOP 820, Hurst, TX 76053
Ph: 817-285-9999
Friday - Saturday - Time: 10:00AM to 4:00PM

Bikes: Venture, Eluder, Bolt, FJR1300, Tenere, MT-10, MT-09, MT-07, XSR900, XSR700, Niken, Tracer GT, R6, R3
NOTE: They list Tenere but not Super Tenere. This may actually be the Tenere 700 that has been available overseas, but not in the US yet. Or it may just be an oversight with the name and it would be the same Super Tenere they have had here all along. It would be awesome if they brought the 700, I'd definitely like to try that one out.

BMW

Friday, April 20, 2019 - Saturday, April 21, 2019
FREEDOM POWERSPORTS OF HURST
633 NE LOOP 820, Hurst, TX 76053
Ph: 817-285-9999
Flyer says 10am to 5pm. Their event calendar says 9am to 10:30am which seems wrong.
Didn't see any details on which bikes are available to ride (e.g. S1000RR) but I would guess the R1250GS(A) would be available (Hint, Jim. It's a month away, you have time).

I can't attend the first one this weekend. I am planning to attend the Yamaha demo at Hurst. I will have to wait and see on the BMW demo at Hurst.

The BMW one is this weekend. I may try to go, but not sure I'll be able to ride.

How was it?

I ordered a battery online for the R1, I'll pick it up on the way home. If I can ride it tonight without issues I plan on going tomorrow to try the R1250 GS.

It was fine. The R1250GSA was alright, but not great. Maybe my expectations were too high. The quick shifter was actually pretty bad. Very clunky going up unless you were in a fairly narrow throttle window. Down in the lower gears was not much better. I don't know if there was something off about that particular bike. The F850GSA on the other hand was better than I expected. The QS was way better than the 1250. But of course it was a pretty tame ride and not much room to really try the bikes out, though the roads were really crappy so you do get to feel out the suspension a bit.

Also rode the 2020 S1000RR. Pretty cool, but you really don't get a good feel for it what with the ride leaders. The dash is pretty nice, similar to the new GS dash. The big surprise for me today was the S1000XR. Though it doesn't have the new dash yet. Tons of power but obviously skewed more to the high end than the boxer. Best quick shift implementation hands down, smooth almost no matter what you were doing with the throttle. Nice ride, comfortable seat, but still able to move around on it. Suspension adjusted from plush to firm on the fly. Ideal bike for a long road trip on two lane pavement.

I went out there but didn't get there until just after 2. They didn't have anything available until 3:45, and I couldn't get anyone to talk to me. So I looked at the GSA's for a few minutes and left. I think I like the gray one best. I didn't like the gold wheels on the blue and white one.
