Shiny happy frame. I'm not seeing the sticker. If they offered to fix it at their cost it wouldn't hurt. They'll have to sandblast it now anyway, right? When you go down there just let the guy know how appreciative you are and how great it looks and in your special Miles's way throw in something about sand blasting. Viola.

Miles, you know that "shitty clandestine pics" doesn't mean you have to take the swingarm to the crapper with you, right? :D

Looking good brother!

like a ttr125 on steroids. Wheels, frame, handlebars all in black. Tank, seat in blue. Haven't decided on the plastics, but at the current time they are blue. I'm probably just going to plasti dip them black.

The 2.5 excel rim i got is a black silver color. Haven't really seen anyone like it, so when i buy a new excel rim i'll have to look into it. I think it's just a color they did a few years back that isn't offered anymore.

UPDATE: I've been getting tons of parts in, but saidly the BBR exhaust, crade & big bore kit have been put on hold. The vendor i bought them from can no longer get them, I have check with several other places in the same price range & neither can they. I have a few bids out on ebay for a couple of those items, but it looks like i'm just going to have to pay the hefty price. :( I have decided to do everything right & once, which has also cut into the budget project bike. The idea was to have this all done march 1st, doesn't look like that will happen, but i'm still pushing for that date.

The biggest task ahead of me is splitting the cases & pulling the crank, installing a new rod, bearings, taking out the balancers out & sending the crank to be trued. At the same time i will be sending the flywheel off to be lightened. I haven't exactly decided if this is something i want to tackle by myself or if i even have the right tools to do this(splitting cases that is). Once this is done it's all up hill from there. Mostly small parts to buy, handle bars, chains, tubes, sprockets(which will be interesting to see what ratio i will run) ect...

I've almost settled on a black & white bike. Plastics/tank will be plasti dipped in flat black, with the frame(already done) in gloss black. Rims/hubs gloss white & hand guards in white. The seat will be covered black as well.

Updates to follow!

I have a motorcycle and I want it painted black. Vendor can't get my parts no more I want them to turn black. My bike budget is now getting steep, by March 1st I hope I'm not in too deeeeeeeep. (It's a stretch but sung to the tune of The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black")

Yep, coffee. Really hope you are able to reach your goal! Don't forget pics!

Might want to look more at the plasti dip for motorcycle use. There are a few post over on MotoDFW from guys that tried it on their race bikes and it did not work out well at all. In the end it would of been cheaper and better had they just painted it.

I will for sure look into it. Painting plastics on dirtbikes is pretty much a no. It flexes too much & cracks. I've had nothing but good things to say about plasti dip. I've used it on several similar parts and it worked out extremely well. With proper prep it shouldn't be an issue, but i'll look further into it.

Imagei got the BBR kit in today. Super impressed with the quality!

So I set down tonight & started working on cutting up the airbox to make it free flowing for the BBR air filter. I'll have pics and more on that later, but as I did that I was also gather parts to have coated.

I'm soooo far from finishing, but everything is coming to a head & I feel overwhelmed.

So I have been gathering all the parts to rebuild the motor. Here you can see me using a puller to take off the flywheel, this will be sent off to shave down some weight. It should make a huge difference on how fast it spins up. Image
At this point I started to notice some metal shavings in the case, no real worries though. ImageI took off the clutch basket Whig looked to be in great shape. Getting the cases split wasn't hard at all, but the amount of parts taken off was starting to add up. The goal here is to replace all the seals, bearings, crank rod & pin. Once apart I noticed huge chunks of metal. Most likely something let go in the motor and exploded below the crank, most likely the rod bearing went out...well that's my uneducated guess. This broke apart some of the case, both halves. If you look well enough you can see this in the picture below. Imageim heart broken. I knew I was taking a chance, but didn't expect this. I can buy a new case, but I really don't want to transfer everything over. Right now there is a bottom end on eBay at a fair price. I'm going to try & win it tonight. This will be ready to go, just needs a top end, which I have.

The downside to winning that bottom end is it will have the counter balance still in it as I have no plans on splitting a perfectly good case. It's really not a big issue though. Updates to follow

Cost? Well when you stop & think about it I'm really not that bad off. A new gasket/seal kit is $85 and trueing up the crank is $100. The bottom end I'm buying is $200. Oh wells. On the plus side I have a new main bearing, crank rod & pin, not to mention clutch and transmission ready to be put in when this one goes!

What is the best way to make sure any metal shavings are completely cleared out of it? Hey I think this is a kick-ass project and I'm glad you didn't give up either. You could've thrown up your hands and say "It's too much effort wah wah wah" (something like that) but I think you'll love and enjoy her a whole lot more considering all the time and effort you're giving.

Well taking out everything and hand cleaning it would be really the only way. That is a lot of stuff to take out by hand & get together again, but if that's what had to be done...well that's what i would do. If i win this bottom end i won't have to worry about any of that.

As of now when it comes down to it, if i was to sell the bike i would be making money. When i'm done with the project i should be just about the same, possibly breaking even. :)
