So word is back, spun rod bearings and the crank got ruined, somewhere north of $7,000 for repairs so still waiting in the final estimate.

Will the new motor be covered under warranty?

Wow.

Made me curious so I took a quick look... Don't know how it compares but...

2014 Aprilia® RSV4 R APRC ABS, 3245 miles, at RPM in Dallas for $9,500.

I'll never own another one, too many people have lost engines >15,000 miles, I'd call it the most unreliable bike you could ride, hell you could probably get more miles out of a two stroke without rebuilds on it.

It wasn't so much for a replacement, but rather a comparison of what one might be able to sell it for in working condition vs. the cost to repair.

A guy over on the ApriliaForums site posted about his spun bearing and subsequent warranty denial.

He said "Then a couple days later I get an email from Reno's saying Piaggio found their own pictures of the bike, and my warranty is denied because the bike was used for racing. They got their pictures by going through my facebook and instagram pages."

So that's an interesting point I'd not really considered.

So, would Ridesmart track days be considered racing?

As defined by the warranty people, yeah. I'm sure the warranty doesn't exclusively say racing, but probably something like high stressing the machine.

Read the details. Timed competitive events are racing. Track days are not. Hard to argue in a court of law of that a high performance motorcycle can't be used on the track..... Modifications though are a totally different animal. For example, corvettes are allowed to be raced, tracked, etc. But once a single modification is done(tires) all bets are off. Also warranties apply to defects, not wear and tear from racing.

If they attempt to deny, push back, hard. If it failed under the warranty, it takes the hand-on-the-bible-in front of Judge reason for denial. Get that reason and the verbatim copy of warranty applicable at time of purchase to compare yourself. Leave emotion out, deal only in facts. If you think it's Bs, a lawyer could write you what is called a Demand Letter, at which point they'll most likely cave. That would be cheap, but not likely free.

Call me, I'll give you some pointers as I deal with the other side of this coin daily......

That sucks man.... should have gotten the BMW :)) I hope it all gets taken care of under warranty without a huge fight. Crazy how many RSV4's have gone down.

Waiting on a call back for details but unfortunately they are going to repair the bike.

By the time I get a bike back I'm going to be fucking running level 1 again

That's surprising. I really thought they would total the bike.

Did you mean "By the time I get the bike back" or did you mean "By the time I get the bike back, sell it, and buy a different bike"

Flipping it will be fast once I have it back, if I pick it up in the morning I'll have an R1 that same afternoon you can count on that. I was told that many RSV4 parts are on back order - and not from the dealer, that's what AF1 is saying about getting parts from across the pond. They said it takes the longest time to get the block and I apparently need a new block.

Now, if I knew I could sell this pile of shit outright I could get the R1 now then sell the RSV4 later but I think my best bet is trade in.

They wont take it now, knowing it'll be fixed? We do that with cars all the time....

Might be worth it. If the same store is doing the repair as has the r1 you want, they may do it to sell another r1. There may be some even further reduced trade in value, but to end the headache.....

I tried a dealer in Irving and they said nope

Oh and Eurosport doesn't sell anything Japanese, about the only thing they have I would consider is a 675R but or Tiger XCX but I'm not in the market for either.

I just asked Eurosport if they would make me an offer on the bike, they said they don't buy used bikes... I think I'm stuck with this damn thing

Geez. What a deal.

Sounds like it needs to be totaled on the way home. "Sorry Mr. Insurance agent, not used to the power after it being broke for so long. Those painted lines sure don't have the grip they need"

Aprilia dealer in Austin, they apparently gave an irresistible cash over to a fellow '14 owner with a spun bearing and convinced another '14 owner that the '17's are "fixed"

TXSR Mike said something similar about the new ones not having the same issues.
