Fort Worth Motorcycle Riders

I was in FPS in Hurst Friday and the have a Dyno there now. They have to get it set up but they said it would be up soon.

I trust Scott at cyclewerkz with all my Dyno needs. If you end up using them to make a custom map or something let me know what you think. I would suggest Scott though as he has always done great work on my bike.

Actually the only reason I will have mine on a dyno is to verify that the bike performs to factory spec. My bike is the way it will always be. I plan on only cosmetic mods thats about it. It has enough power for me and besides any performance mods cost out weighs the benifits for me. (Besides I can barely handle what it has now!)

Yes but a powercommander and personalized fuel mapping is not only to increase power. Factory settings suck for your mpg. After having a custom map done it will increase your MPG plus it will make your entire power curve very steady and smooth. This will allow you to have a little more power but it will be much more manageable as there will be less jumps when going through your powerband. At least that is how I understand it.

A power commander isn't just about more power, it's about a *better* power curve. Stock fuel mapping is all screwy because manufacturers have to meet emissions requirements. So they end up running lean a lot. Getting your fuel mix back the way it's supposed to be just makes the bike all-around better.

An exhaust and a power commander are both on my to-do list for the Ninja, one day.

All true, but unless you are noticing a problem, or low spot I wouldn't bother.

Can your mapping on be changed with a power commander or something similiar or can they do the same thing with the bike's computer? So basically I guess I'm asking if you neee to have a pc or something similiar in order to have everything remapped?

Some bikes have programmable ECUs, like I think the Triumph Daytona. You get a laptop and the right kind of cable and you can upload your own custom maps. Other bikes don't have programmable ECUs like that, so you must buy a power commander or similar to do custom mapping.

Well to be honest I have thought about louder pipes so I can hear my bike better on the track. I like having the bike quiet on the street so if I could have a set of slipons and a PC as an easy way to change the mapping when I change the pipe for track or for road... That would be ideal.

You don't have many miles on your bike yet right? Give it a few 1000 more and see how the sound sounds. It will get a bit louder over time. Ear plugs works also. They block out the wind noise and actually allow you to hear the bike better.

I'm baffled by you guys who say you can't hear your bike on the track.

My Ninja is totally stock and I can hear it just fine on the track. I can also hear people behind me when they get close enough to pass, so I know when to let someone by on the next straight.

Are you wearing earplugs?

Could be the helmet, with my Nolan and ear plugs I hear nothing but muffled wind, even under high RPM. With my SS and ear plugs I can hear my engine, when I swtiched helmets and could hear my engine, it was like riding a new bike, one that actualy made sounds.

Ah, that makes sense. If you've got a loud helmet, even with earplugs it can drown out your exhaust. I wear a Shoei Qwest which is one of the quietest helmets you can get. I can hear everything around me just fine when I have earplugs in.

I can already tell some hearing damange from what little I've ridden without plugs, now, for me, plugs carry the same level of importance as a helmet.

I lost a majority of my hearing when I was in Army already. Just Sayin... Edit: I lost a majority of my ability to distinguish other sounds besides the constant ringing in my head.

Try riding with plugs, it makes all the difference in the world.

Anything over 10-15min of riding and i put my plugs in. I always though plugs were stupid, but they make riding so much more better! Noise fatigue is a bitch

and the wind noise is at such a frequency that anything over 15-20 min will cause long term damage. Might not be much, but it all adds up.

I do ride with ear plugs on the Roadking for obvious reasons plus the half helmet I wear on that bike but have not on the R1. I will give it a shot.

It's really not the motor that is so loud, but more the wind. Go out on a good ride and half way through put them in, you will be amazed at how much better it is. Plus you can still hear everything! There are earplugs that Maddox buys that have filtered holes in them that only cancel the loud stuff out. I'll probably buy a pair soon

That is what I meant about the half helmet, the wind is directly in your ears. On the R1 I have full helmet and wind noise really is not that bad or at least did not appear to be. Like I said earlier I will give it a try in the full helmet and see the diff for myself.

I dont ride with earplugs much because im usually scared I wont be able to hear my scala rider if I do ... I might try it one day though. Also I suggest to everyone to get exhaust .... and as loud as you can for safety. One more thing to tell the cars ....HEY im next to ya. I dont even put my baffels in .... ever! lol.

yeah, we removed the baffles in my exhaust a long time ago and it's a lot louder.....when I on the highway and in traffic especially as it's starting to bottle up, I always ride in a gear lower than what I need (unless I'm in 1st obviously) just so I can make more noise and potentially save me from that idiot who's going to try and jump over without turning to look.
