So all kidding aside, I'm impressed. Doing a project like this is a great way to learn about the nuts-and-bolts level of engines. I want to take on a project like this one day. I kick around the idea of buying a Suzuki Savage, souping up the engine, and doing the Ryca cafe conversion on it.

Yep, that was part of idea. I didn't want to start out on a bigger bike simply because of the cost issues. As you can see i've run into my fair share of problems, but the amount i've learned....worth every penny & more. I already have plans on other bike builds that i want to do!!! :D

Just finished up blasting some parts for miles, will PC them tomorrow after work.
Also did his rims today using a neighbors setup that has a nicer gun, larger oven, and larger blast cabinet.

The color on the rims looks a lot better than that sample piece you looked at last week.

This is going to be like the worlds most expensive dirt bike, will it have spinners?

Fixxer, please don't insult him by implying he'd put spinners on his DIRT BIKE.

Those gold wheels are sweet. You're going to have the best looking MX'er slicing around the berms. It's a shame you're going to subject them to the dirt and mud.

That thing is going to be a hoot on the track. The only downside is the lack of short tracks in the region. Unless you're running TMGP in Katy/Denton, you're limited to the 1.3 at MSR.

Heres the perfect event for you Miles. I'll be there along with a few other ridesmart regulars. Will this bike be ready by March 6?

It won't be ready by then. If it is it won't have any suspension work or anything.

Main thing I'm looking at is what tire to run up front, I'm kind of lost.

Also I still need to send off my flywheel to get machined down.

Update: got back the flywheel with just over a lb shaved off, quality work!

Below you see the new valves & the old. I shouldn't have to explain what's wrong with the old Image

Taking out the valves wasn't too hard. Once out the new ones needed to be "lapped". Just a bit of compound & elbow grease made for a tight fit!
Image

At the same time the new cam was put in.

Right now the spokes are being custom made for the wheels. Apparently I have an odd shape for the front. Everything else just needs to be bolted together. Doesn't sound bad on paper, but there isn't one part touching another at the current moment.

Things missing: I need to order the new springs. Also need to order new jets for the carb & a front tire. I haven't decided on the front brake setup. I'm trying not to settle on just a galfer oversize free floating rotor, but it's looking might good taking the easy way out right now. It will probably be the last decision I make.

Here is a pic of a cat if I have lost you along the way. Image
