In June 1990 Cycle Magazine listed numbers from a stock RC30/ZX-7/GSX-R750 at 475-520lbs and 80-90hp, with the RC described as having the worlds broadest powerband. Prices for these bikes were $15,000/$6500/$6200.

I have a dyno chart for this bike showing 130hp at the rear wheel. I'll scan it when I can find it. And I weighed it once and got just under 360lbs ready to ride.

EDIT - I just saw this in the same magazine: WSB regs stated minimum weight for a 4-cylinder bike was 364lbs, (309lbs for a V-twin).

Quick update.
I was all set to try a first startup today but after putting gas in the carbs the oil pressure warning light wouldn't come on. I couldn't believe it was a bad connection in my new wiring harness so I figured my oil pressure sensor must have had a problem. I cleaned it and tested it and it was fine. So I removed the wiring harness and checked all the connections. Everything was fine but it was a good opportunity to optimize a few routings. Still no oil pressure indicator so I checked the 12v ultrabright LED i bought from Frys last week... damn thing failed after being lit up only 5 times.
So tomorrow I'll see what happens when i hit the starter button. I'll set up the camera first though.

Its ALIVE!!!!!

I still have some work to do. The rear coil mount stripped right before I filmed this clip. A new nutzert will fix that.
I'll wrap the wiring harness with tape after a few minor routing changes.
I need to make a mount for the ignition switch, test the race kit tach (the video shows the stock tach in the kit bracket) then make a foam mount for the tach and temp gauge.

I might take it to Cresson next weekend. Not sure if I'll ride it or not. I still need to make some case savers for the clutch and alternator covers.

This kind of stuff is so cool, and so far over my head...right now you may be "the most interesting man in the world"...without the chicks of course. But who needs the chicks when you got a bike this cool?

Success.

Plenty of smoke from wd-40 on the headers, but so far no leaks. And no oil smoke from the exhaust.
This motor has straight cut primary gears, none of the sound insulation from the stock side covers, and a straight through exhaust. Result, its LOUD. And only half the noise comes from the exhaust. It generates a lot of induction noise also, due to the lack of an airbox and filter.

Now its time to wrap the wiring harness, add a few waterproof covers to the connectors, mount the start button, tach and temp gauge, rinse out the fuel tank and start installing bodywork.

This is the end of my third bike rebuild in 12 months. I wont know what to do with myself now that I have no projects left.

its a catch tank for oil vapor. This engine is infamous for burning oil, its why this sump is so much larger than stock. The oil tank is supposed to feed the vapor back into the airbox but considering this bike doesnt have one its a little redundant.

Looks like it will be a while before I can get it on the track. I was thinking this weekend would be perfect for maybe one lap but that wont happen now.

In the meantime, the brakes are all done. I was going to use the AP Lockheed calipers that were on the bike but the seals are bad and I cant find replacements. This is the solution: 4-pad calipers from a 999s, new spacers and custom made brackets.

Forgot to post this earlier.
All done (Except for the chain of course, which is on order, and the HRC tach converter which is also on its way here.

I just noticed I also have to replace the lower parts of the 23 which fell off the oil cooler inlet grill.

Tell you what - you find an source of affordable custom bearings, HRC crank, pistons, rings and side covers and we'll both race it.

Another update after some careful planning. Dark shadow was kind enough to help out with some electronics in exchange for tools. As a result, the missing widget that allows the race kit cdi to talk to the race kit tachometer has been replaced.

It came with an education in electronics and digital circuits that will not be forgotten.

Yeah, we just need an engineer to explain to my why the circuit does what it does. Damn thing doesn't work the way it should but does what we need it to.
