Changing Tires

Post by DarcShadow » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:04 am

Ok, so after 10 years of riding (-2 for "down time") I'm finally pulling a rear wheel myself to have the tire changed. Do I need to remove the sprocket and brake rotor as well before taking the wheel to the shop for a new tire?

Sprocket and dampers, yes. They should just fall right out. Brake rotor, no.

Are dampers also known as "cush drive"?

I did not take the sprocket or anything off before taking mine to cyclewerkz a couple weeks ago. Maybe I did it wrong but they didnt say anything to me about it and it only took them like 10 min to do the tire.

I'm lazy. It's easier to ridw the bike in and have them do it. And I don't have to remember how to put it back together. :D

I dont think you have to remove the sprocket. George never does, but he does clean the tire real well since its off and easy to get to everything, and he greases the axle bearings.

Sckego was right, the sprocket just falls out with just a little pressure so taking it off is easy and prevents it from just falling off while transporting the wheel.
