Rear suspension preload

Post by Miz » Fri May 13, 2011 7:49 am

question. I have a 2010 Ninja 250R and I am just not getting how to adjust the rear suspension. I read the manual and it says put the wrench in a certain spot but im just not getting it. Is there a certain tool? I am pretty sure the tool kit i got from previous owner wasn't complete. Any help would be appreciated thanks!!

You usually need a spanner wrench to adjust the rear suspension. It normally doesn't come with the tool kit.

Yeah, a spanner wrench is best, or you *could* use a hammer and screw driver, but then again I wouldn't recommend that. Per the parts list, the spanner tool should be in there, part 92110B:

If not, it's $8.23...

You would probably be better off just going to a motorcycle shop like CycleWerkz and paying $20-30 bucks and having them do the setup for you. Granted, there's only so much you can do on a Ninja 250, but having an expert do the setup for your height and weight is the best route to go!

Cycle Werkz no longer does suspension setups.

Make a day of taking it to the track to watch some of the FWMR members and have them set it up there. That's what i plan on doing soon

Yeah, if Roger is at the track day, get with him. He does good work. I didn't know they didn't do suspension setups at CycleWerkz, that's odd...

Too many people thought that because they paid for it once that any adjustments should be free, forever.

Yep, its $30 well spent, especially since it will be set up specifically for your height and weight.

Just bring $30 and come out to the track at Cresson next weekend (21-22) and get Roger to set you up. It is money well spent.

Or since it is just a 250, read up on a basic how to, use a hamer and screw driver and do it yourself. I did on my ZX9R back in the day. And the one time I had Cycle Werkz setup the suspension, they used a hammer and screw driver too. If you follow this guide, Suspension Tuning Guide, you'll be pretty close to what Roger would set. I did it once before paying to have it done, and they only made a couple of very slight adjustments.
