Suzuki Cold Start problem
Suzuki Cold Start problem
So I've discovered, there is a common issue among GSXR's for cold start problems, at first I thought I had a coil or something going, then additional problems and some research shows that's not the case, its a common suzuki issue apparently.
Sarts cold, idles too low runs bad and stalls, have to hold the throttle open for it to idle until it comes up to temp, then rev it up good a few times then all is well and runs perfect from then on out.
Only happens when its cold, and its been sitting overnight.
More of an annoyance than anything, just takes longer to get going in the morning, I can't just kick the bike on then go chill while it warms up, 1 year old fuel injected machine should not have this issue.
so
Haven't found any good diagnostic crap on the internet, million people list the problem with a million different fixes, it doesn't happen all the time so its hard to reproduce, and I'm afraid to take it to the dealer, cause I don't like having the screws put to me and I don't trust them as it is.
Anyone ever run into this issue? One thing I read is fast idle adjustment screw will move due to engine vibration, I want more info before I start fiddling with turning screws.

I haven't run into this problem yet, but if I do I'll let you know and we can compare notes

Re: Suzuki Cold Start problem
I didn't have that problem on my '06 Gixxer, and that included starts at < 40 degrees. I did however have a 2-bros aftermarket pipe and power commander, as well as the butterfly valve servo disconnected. Usually just start it up and rev it lightly just a quick quick twists and then go away and get geared up while it warmed up. Not sure if the redesign in '08 introduced the problem...

I know it doesn't help me to tell you this, but my friends 07 had the same problem.

Scrap it and buy a Honda.
I haven't heard of that issue before. Call CycleWerkz and see if they have a way to fix it.

I'm watching the boards to see if someone finally comes up with a solid fix, so for no one has, and even a few people saying there is no fix just get used to it.

They installed a carb and just told you it has fuel injection.

It acts like it fires on 3 cylinders and its super rich, after its warm hit the throttle a few times and its golden.DarcShadow wrote:They installed a carb and just told you it has fuel injection.

Re: Suzuki Cold Start problem
Sounds like a sensor went bad. Did this just start or has it always done it?

Started after a rectifier recall.dufremle wrote:Sounds like a sensor went bad. Did this just start or has it always done it?
I've read about others going back to the dealer, laying out $500 and not getting their issue fixed.
So unless I can find a solid "its X causing the problem" I'm hesitent to take it anywhere.

Re: Suzuki Cold Start problem
I'd try adjusting the idle screw first. It's quick and easy and won't hurt anything.

Re: Suzuki Cold Start problem
Oh, and mine does it when its 100 degrees out.
George has adjusted the idle screw, and it goes back to being low. (several times)

My Porsche, uh hum, I mean my V-rod has not had this problem but I have experienced it with a previous fuel injected Suzuki.
I only have one example to fix it but the old Guy that retired from Suzuki Dallas and opened his own shop re-mapped my puter and it went away for good.

yea I'm thinking it has to be computer related, I bet they gave me an updated flash when I had it in for the rectifier recall.Bailout wrote:My Porsche, uh hum, I mean my V-rod has not had this problem but I have experienced it with a previous fuel injected Suzuki.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a power commander.

Got a long list before that, I need a one piece. Leather or not, something in my gut doesn't trust a zip together if I were to go skidding along at 130 mph.DarcShadow wrote:Sounds like a good excuse to buy a power commander.

Ah, what I meant was, even with my leather, the fact they zip together is a weak point.Bailout wrote:Non leather one piece!!!

I'd trust a leather two-piece at 130mph before I trusted textile one-piece at that speed, other than maybe one of the MotoPort stretch Kevlar suits.fixxervi6 wrote:Got a long list before that, I need a one piece. Agree, and I'll take my zip together mesh over jeans, I just want to be better protected as it is a weak link compared to the rest.Rhino wrote:I'd trust a leather two-piece at 130mph before I trusted textile one-piece at that speed, other than maybe one of the MotoPort stretch Kevlar suits.fixxervi6 wrote:Got a long list before that, I need a one piece. Fair enough.
Keep an eye on NewEnough and Moto Liberty--they should be closing out this year's stuff for pretty cheap.

Re: Suzuki Cold Start problem
Cold start problem again this morning, pita, FI light came on till it warmed up, turned if off then back on and all was well. What is odd is normally when its this warm out I don't have an issue, so it appears the problem is getting "worse".
So I called the dealer told him about my problem, said they have been seeing lots of gsxr's with this problem even when its hot out, he said its the butterfly valve, they need adjusted on a regular basis.
I asked how much to fix it, he said, well uh, we just take em out, $150.00.
So Blizz this may be your issue, you have factory exhaust too.
