I just thought the HP2 was cool just because it had their 1200cc opposed engine in it.

can Cyclewerks do the 600 mile check up ? mine only calls for inspecting cables and screws and changing oil and filter so shouldnt be too high. Just can't see giving Kawasaki $190 for this minor checkup.

They can do just about everything, even a turbo if that's what your looking for :))

Give them a call and tell them exactly what you posted up here, they'll let you know if they can take care of you.

I have recently purchased a new motorcycle and also just recently had the 600 mile check and oil change. They changed out the oil filter, new synthetic 10W40 Amsoil oil, and went thru and checked the bike out in general. This cost me $103.00. $40.00 for parts, $49.00 in labor, shop supplies and taxes.
I had the work done at Freedom Power Sports (Formally Family Power Sports) this is also the place I bought my bike. I went to the Hurst location which is not a Yamaha dealership.

1. It is close to where I live.
2. They do service all makes and models at the Hurst store.
3. They are under the Freedom Power Sports Umbrella which does have a Yamaha dealership located in Weatherford
4. I have spent close to $20000.00 for motorcycles this year at the Hurst store or the Weatherford store.
5. They actually know what they are doing at the Hurst store.

I agree with Rhino about the first few new services being done by the dealership, especially if you have a manufacturer extended warranty (I do have Yamaha Extended Service) at some point I am going to start doing the small maintenance. (How can I afford track days if I keep paying $100.00 for oil changes)

They want like $150 to do it at Cycle Werkz. I think thats kind of steep since it only involves changing oil/filter and making sure all screws are tight. No adjusting valves or anything major.

Keep in mind, you are paying for their expertise and experience in servicing a brand new motorcycle. They are much more likely to notice any issues that may escape someone who has not performed this first service on a bunch of bikes. If I was you, I'd just pay the $150 and ride away with peace of mind. Or do it yourself and call it a learning experience.

It's also the time involved. While it's nothing hard it will take a while and the techs get paid just as much if they're are checking screws as they do if they are rebuilding an engine. Time is money.

Not sure, but I believe $50-$60 is the norm for most shops.

$75/hr is dealer pricing, I think that's what Grapevine Kawasaki charges me as well.

Not that it's a bad price for guys who know what they're doing. See Fixxer's oil change for what can go wrong when you're clueless. :SideSplittingLaughter:

Here is a response from an e-mail I sent to Cycle Werks this morning concerning hourly labor rates.

Hi There - Our labor rate is $70.00 an hour - If it is turbo or dyno time - then it is $100.00 an hour. Thanks!

I'd definatly take it to a dealer for the first maintenance. The thing about motorcycles is that they vibrate, and things like to vibrate loose. The first maintenance is critical in making sure nothing has come loose after the factory build. If everthing is still tight then your good going down the road, if not the dealer should find it, and get it back to spec. You just never know when someone at the factory forgot to torque that one bolt.
