KTM Maintenance

Post by shilka99 » Fri Oct 19, 2012 9:51 pm

I spent last night and today going through the KTM to make sure everything is as it should be for the Eurosport day at Cresson Monday. I havent ridden it since I broke my collar bone so it was sorely in need of some maintenance.
I added new oil and filters when I checked the valves a few weeks ago, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. I fixed a bunch of minor issues then got to the safety wiring I've been meaning to do for years. Now that it has sumo wheels its even more important that bits dont come loose...

I also did the oil cap, drain plug and even the grips.
And while I was doing this look what jumped off the mill:

Next up I started adjusting the jetting. Its been too lean for a while now but on the dirt the throttle is wide open for such short periods of time it wasnt a critical issue. On Cresson the motor will be wide open a lot more so I need to fatten the mix. (How do I know its too lean? Pulling the choke on makes the motor run smoother. Choke richens the mixture, QED carb needs a bigger jet.)
Got jets?
