Some riv-nut action

Post by shilka99 » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:43 pm

For anyone interested, I got a chance to use my new Riv-nut tool today. I was able to finally fix a thread that has stripped out a few times underneath my KTM swingarm.

The insert

Drilled out the stripped 6mm threads: (showing the lack of metal available to be threaded)

All done:

The clever design means that the more you tighten the bolt in this insert, the harder it grips the surrounding metal. And if you go crazy and strip the insert you can drill it out and install another one without damage to the area.

I have not tried them on thick metal like that yet but I know they are an awesome fix for sheetmetal screw holes theat strip from repeated use.

How big does that go.
My OilPan Shield - receivers in the crossmember all stripped out.
Have been thinking having someone weld nuts to the crossmember to thread into.
This may be the correct answer.
I think, 7/16ths ? or what, 12mm ?

The largest insert included in the kit was 8mm. If you want to try it out you can borrow it any time.
