Garage Security

Post by DarcShadow » Tue Sep 08, 2009 2:52 pm

You know that rope on your garage door that you can pull on and then manually raise or lower the door, you should remove the handle part of it.

From what I've been told and read it is quite easy to push the top of the door in and reach in with a coat hanger or something, grab the handle and pull it to unlock the door.

I haven't tried to open the door from the outside like this but I can easily see how it could be down. Taking the handle off is a simple way to prevent it.

Yep, I took the string and everything out awhile back from my garage doors. I've heard not only about the hanger trick but about punching in the top part and just reaching in to grab the string.

well hell then, I must of missed it the first time around and it sounds like most every one already knew about this anyway. I think I'm going to move this to the tech section and make it a sticky.

Maybe we need to come up with a rules list for those new to owning a sportbike just as an FYI.

Just taking the string off isn't good enough. Double check that the latch can't be pulled as in the video and if it can consider zip tieing the latch so it can't be pulled.

You could also put an alarm on the garage door. I have been thinking about doing it to mine for a while.

Yeah, I've had that installed on my first house and made sure to have it added on our new house.

after they took my helments and jacket from mine i drilled a hole thru the track right above one of the rollers and stuck a locking pin (like you find on a home gym) thru the track. takes 2 secs to lock/unlock

:icon_wss0be: And yes it is easier if there are windows on the garage. But in reality you are still talking about under a minute to gain access to a house. 60 seconds and you have the garage open, are in, and have the door closed consealing your precense from the street.
