2000 honda cbr 600 f4 for sale

Post by Envy » Tue Aug 11, 2015 1:24 pm

So it has sadly come to this. And I didnt even get to finish it. My girlfriend has decided to sell the bike. I figured id post here first. Its only got the starting issue, but from what everyone here has said its only down to a few things. Fuel pump or spark plugs. I unfortunately have not had anymore time to put into it since my initial post about it. So she has decided that since she still hasnt taken the courses. And that we are in a tight spot financially, that she wants to sell it. I have tried to talk her out of it but yeah. So the price is $1,850. Its a 2000 honda cbr 600 f4. Its in ok condition for being older. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me or post here.

Have you sold it yet? If not, the bike does not run or it has issues with starting? Also what other things still need to be done on it?

Still have it. Bike currently does not start without assistance. Meaning pushing button doesnt make it kick over. Its either fuel pump (which clicks weakly when the bike is powered on) or the plugs. Im leaning more towards the pump which is only 26.00 on amazon. If I have time after fixing a car sat I may get to check the plugs and see if I get anywhere with it.

If it does not kick over its not the fuel pump. If it kicks over but just spins then it could be the fuel pump. Several easy ways to find out for sure before you buy a pump for no reason. You can use carb cleaner in the intake (air filter area) (small short spray then try to start it) and it should fire up if it is a fuel delivery problem but it wont run for more than a second because it isn't getting fuel so its just burning the cleaner (don't use this to keep the thing running .... its not great for the bike long term).

Thats what the guy she bought it from did. Sprayed starter fluid into intakes. Ran for a few seconds then dies. Means fuel delivery. Yes?

Yep I would say it is fuel delivery. Is it fuel injected? If it is then when the bike kicks over the injectors should be pulsing (there is a tool that will tell ya if they are). Another thing you can do to check the fuel pump is to disconnect the fuel line and stick it in a bucket then turn the bike on and see if the pump shoots the fuel out. If it is super weak then you know.... if it shoots out you will need to check the pressure and then see what the pressure is supposed to be.

last bike I bought that had to be run from starter fluid was a total loss, engine was completely shot.

On these it could be as simple as the pet cock needing replaced or not getting vacuum - I would start with the petcock - does the petcock give fuel when you put it under manual vacuum.

If you have a vacuum gauge you can put a T in the light, crank the engine then see if it's getting vacuum to the petcock.

So, what was up with it? No gas or something simple?

I think when I cleaned the jets the first time I didnt let them soak in the dip long enough. This time I let everything soak for several hours. Then took carb cleaner and sprayed into every single hole.

Funny that should be your problem. My 90 CBR1000F has very small "idle" jets I'm told, and the only way to clean them properly is with an extensive soaking, as you described. You can try to do it quickly, but you'll be doing it again per a couple of different Honda dealership service managers. Mine need cleaned now. I can probably eventually get it to start, but it won't even come close to idling or running properly.
