Free Computer

Post by DarcShadow » Thu Nov 21, 2013 11:55 am

I have an OLD computer, currently running Windows 98, that any one that wants it can take it. Included is a 17" CRT monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a second 14"(?) CRT monitor.

It runs win 98 great so I'm sure Linux would run just fine on it. If not one takes it in the next week or so I'll probably take everything out of the case and drop the parts minus the case off at Best Buy. Might see if good will wants the monitors.

Getting rid of CRT's these days is a pita, they are now considered toxic waste. Electronics recycling centers won't take them without a fee.

$10 each to dump them at Staples in Stephenville. Just strap them on the back, come on down, and we'll ride the twisties when you've unloaded them (or before if you're up for a challenge).

I'm not going to pay to have them removed. If no one will take them I'll just throw them in the trash bin.

That's what happens when they make it to hard/expensive to dispose of stuff.

Just like those stupid CFL bulbs. They contain mercury so you aren't supposed to throw them in the regular trash. But they also banned regular bulbs so you have to use the CFL. Guess where they go when they burn out?

well then we'll just bring all our cfl bulbs to bike night and give them to you. Most of us don't go to HD every week but we walk past the trash can daily.

No idea on the first two. Half life would probably run but not well.
