Beginner bike needed.

Post by shilka99 » Sat May 10, 2014 8:06 pm

I almost bought a Ninja 250 today until I rode it - it was bent and broken and grinding discs against pad backers front and rear. And still the seller demanded top dollar despite the beat to hell fairings, bottomed out forks and a motor with reeeeally poor compression.

Does anyone out there know of a 250-500 for my sister-in-law? She doesn't have a huge budget but anything in the $1,500 range would work.

I don't know of any off hand but I did find a good condition per-gen for 1K on craigslist, had just over 1,000 miles, so they do exist.

I had to look at a lot of garbage bikes before I found it, takes time.

My sister needs to get her GS500 out of my garage. :D It is a little beaten and has been parked for a while. The tires have about 1k miles on them. It would need a battery and I would assume a good carb cleaning. It won't start and I don't know why. I would guess the price to be about $700. If track is the goal though a 250 would be a vastly superior bike for that. If just for something to get around town and do some learning on, well, the 500 did a great job of getting my feet wet.

There is a Ninja 500R at the pawn shop down the street. I will try to get over there tomorrow and ask a cash price. It has been there for a few weeks.
