The reason I say Goldwing is he is after comfort. I thought the Goldwing was the most comfortable bike out there so that is the one that makes sense if your trying for comfort.

Depends what you consider comfortable vs. what you want to actually live with.

I love the hell out of my FJR - it's comfy enough for serious touring, but light and nimble enough to live with on a daily basis.

Striple, we need to do a bike swap ride sometime, I'd like to compare back to the old C14 and get your opinion of the FJR too.

I agree. this is why I was originally saying I was good with the s1krr. I was fine for comfort even on the 700 + mile day. One day I might buy a concourse or something like that but I will first have a track bike and a dirt bike and a few other things because I can happily tour on my sportbike.

This might be a double post but, that's only 400 miles / day, I could do that in my sleep.

No way man, if the GS1200 would have been in my price range with the options I wanted, that's what I would have bought.

What's the difference? I would be willing to take you up on it. the first day we spent 12 hours or so on the bikes. I had no problem getting up and doing another 10 or so the 2nd day or any of the other days because I think all 5 days where over 10 hours. Most of the trip we had speeds close to what I would do in my car to be honest. Sure there was some high speed stretches but most was 90 and less.

I've done three or four day 500+ mile/day trips.. It's doable on the 675. But no way in hell I'm I going to do a 1 to 2 week cross country ride on it. Especially when parts of said trip may be slabbing down a highway for a few hours with your ass planted in the seat. It's just not comfortable. Plus when the 675 is loaded with baggage it's limited space, and even more uncomfortable. Easy to do a 4 day trip and have everythign you need. But not a long trip.

I've got the 675 for the weekend twisties, trackdays, and the two - four day trip to the sisters and back. Now it's time to add something that I commute day to day comfortably on, ride across country for 1-2 weeks on, and still have fun when I hit the dragon during said trip.

ZX14 with hard luggage setup would be an awesome touring machine
GS1200 - I lust after the pimped out adventure version.

I've come across some GS's used at some good prices. I just don't want the high maintenance price tag included with a BMW. That's the same reason I'm not looking any of the Triumph bikes. As much as I'd love a SprintGT I don't want the price tag of maintance. So I'm looking at something like an FJR, FZ1 with FJR bags, v-strom, etc.. Once I've got the cash in hand We'll see what I end up with.

I've looked at the v-strom and to me that's closer to a DP than a touring machine. That's just my first impression.

Yeah. I'm kind of leaning towards that because it will serve all purposes. It'll be a comfy tourer, fun in the twisties, and shouldn't be a problem when that rode I thought would be fun twisties turns out to be jacked up goat trail.

If you go to the tail of the Dragon and leave the 675 at home it will be sad. In that example I would much rather take the s1krr so I can have it for the dragon.

I've had the 675 out there twice. It's seen and done it's job out there, so it wouldn't be sad. It would only be sad, if I had something that wasn't fun to ride on that road.

The Strom and the GS are both big, heavy bikes with tubeless tires, cast wheels, and 19" front tires. It's really a wash which is better for dirt riding--they both suck.

More people off-road the R1200GS than the DL-1000. More people off-road the DL-650 than the R1200GS.

If you're looking for a big touring bike to eat road miles, any adventure-touring bike will be about the same. They all have the same inappropriately-sized wheels that take low-mileage rubber and the same kind-of-but-not-quite wind protection.
