TWS May 29th

Post by Tooner » Tue May 09, 2017 9:29 am

I was going to wait and see how it went this Saturday but after seeing how it fills up and watching some great videos of TWS I think I'm ready to commit to sign up for the 29th. Anyone else in???

Just signed up for the 29th. BTW, looks like spots opened up in Level 1 for this coming weekend.

Haven't finished them yet. The tail is painted, but not clear'd. The front fender is mounted and done. The bottom pieces is painted and clear'd. Trying to finish up the upper fairing. PITA... BTW, don't use lacquer based clear on paint before testing it. It can lift certain paints...ask me how I know...

No matter how imperfect it turns out, it will be much better than I could have done! I am a true novice in many things, painting is one of those.

I'm learning as I go. I've had to sand down to primer a few times to fix mistakes. I'm too particular I think. I keep trying to tell myself, "It's just a track bike", but it's not working.

So for those of you that have been to TWS before I'm assuming we can setup the night before like Cresson and Cota?

I arrived the morning of the event, but there were many riders already camping out there from the night before.

I'll be there Sunday night to get setup then. I'm going to try and have my canopy setup as close to the classroom as I can. Hate being rushed in the morning and since I've never been to TWS I'd really like to do the track drive in the morning. Maybe I can catch the tail end of the SCCA races Sunday...

I'm in level one, (of course) Seth you are also right? Derek what about you? This will be my second time at TWS and I thought is was a total blast. No free lunch like MSRC but there is a place on site that has Burgers and some BBQ if I remember. If it were cooler at night I would tent on Sunday night, it was a 3 hour drive for me.

Yep level one. Shane, not that you looked, but how fast did the Honda go on the banked straight?

ya, 148mph, I am always a bit cautious the first day on any track but I probably won't go a whole lot faster Monday. I believe I heard someone say they hit 170, not saying who......

I'm not saying that long banked front is not a blast, but I really get more out of carving a better corner than blasting that banked front straight. Hope the weather is nice to us!

If you guys want to join me when you get here...I'm setup right behind the classroom. There is plenty of space.

Nice setup, how'd you get the bike to stick to the ceiling like that?

Stupid phone. When you view it full sized it's right side up. Decent day. Bike broke on lap 3 of the first session. Had to sit on the track for almost 40 minutes waiting to be picked up. Got the bike working again luckily so I was able to finish out the day. Not the best track day I've ever had, but it was fun. At least there were no major incidents. All and all people were pretty behaved.

Sorry your bike had that hiccup Derek, glad you were able to get it back up and running. As for the rest of the day, NO rain, very mild temps, GREAT DAY!!!! I got to try to keep up with Seth and the instructor(good thing I had a lazy litre bike and a couple of long straights) There was that Black Flag thing but... no harm no foul right?!?
