I checked all the settings and he didn't change the compression and rebound much on either end, just one or two clicks here and there. The preload was a big change in terms of turns on the adjusters but it didn't actually move the sag as much as I would have thought. I'm seeing his point about potentially needing stronger springs if I really want to push it.

It’s a cool idea but I probably wouldn’t do it.
The ‘13-15 ZX-6R has a low power mode that’s upper 80’s whp. I figure I get everything I want with that and electronics, ABS, similar to the big bikes, at a decent price. I turn it all on, get the suspension adjusted, and start from there.

"low power mode"? never heard of a low power mode on a 600 but I have heard of different mappings on a 600, my 750 has 3 mappings and they don't work like most people think they work

In all seriousness I think you are greatly overestimating the power of a 600. Your 500 has a fairly flat power curve by comparison, on a 600 anything under 10-12K and it's 100% gutless with no power, you have to keep the 600 screaming to keep the power down and that in turn is what makes them difficult to ride, not their horsepower.

If your that obsessed with staying on a low horsepower bike why not consider a race prepped 300

I have to ride to and from, I don’t have time or space for a trailer, I’d love a transit connect, but for now it has to be street legal.

It’s the best compromise I can come up with. Right now a slipper clutch and gear indicator would be heaven. You sit “in” it, kinda like a GSX-R, and I like that position.

Interesting, wonder who the hell came up with that idea and why, they are low enough on power as it is. Also I think those dyno numbers are padded a bit.

It does illustrate a point tho, look at the RPM for peak power and the angle of that power curve, then go look at your 500's curve.

At one time when I was looking for a dedicated track bike I had a similar complaint, why don't they make smaller bikes with good equipment on them. Once answer is the race version of the RC390 but DAMN $$$$. I even considered importing an RS125 but screw that.

Do yourself a favor and test ride a 600 if you haven't before you buy one

I thought about that 500R for a year before I got that, rode the 250 for over 2.5 years, I’m a conservative mover. I researched about a year now. I will definitely test the exact bike, I need about another $1500.
I have an account set aside.

I rode a ‘15 GSX-R750 in low mode and it was cool. Not too bad position, resets a little high, but in a corner I could feel how limited my 500 is, the GSX was super stable and my body was in a better position, it felt more natural and semi fast turns on Green Oaks seemed like a breeze and low stress.

I’ve really done all I can do with this 500 without redesigning the whole cycle. I’ve thought about a FZR400, I think they had those here through the mid 90’s, but carburetored.
