MSRC July 21/22 1.7CCW/1.7CW

Post by WickerMan » Wed Jun 27, 2018 10:05 am

So it's the ever rare CW run of the 1.7 on Sunday. I think CMRA runs this direction in races?

I'm cornering on Saturday, and honestly if you were out there this last Sunday you can probably ride any day. So I may do the CW for a change of pace. It that, I mean, I'll be going much slower cause Wagonwheel and Hourseshoe are downhill lefts now. But I have the chance to even up the tread on my tires, so you never know.

Has anyone here done the CW 1.7 and have an opinion on it?

I have crashed running CW. Even with that I think I like it better. You don’t have the hard braking like you do CCW and it seems to flow better.

I plan on doing the CW to get some extra practice. CMRA is racing CW the following weekend and then racing CCW in August.

And I felt just the opposite, it didn't flow well at all to me. You're constantly breaking through decreasing radius turns, just felt weird to me. That being said, I did enjoy it, it's a track day after all. For several years the track record was faster going CW that CCW. I'm not sure where it stands now.

I'm signed up for Sat. July 21. I suspect the RS10's will be trashed by the end of the day with about 2,500 miles on them.

Can you say how that happened and what corner?

I can imagine it backward in my head fairly good. Also it's a chance for something different, even up those tires.

I rode off the track at lean because I turned in too early at Tombstone. The bike stopped pretty quick and I went up against it and over the top. Image

Ok thanks. Here I am imagining horseshoe or wagon wheel were the issue. Maybe you’ll see me it looks interesting

Gotta love summer track days in Texas. And that's just the air temp, just think how hot it'll be walking across the asphalt to get to class. ha

I'm sorry for saying this, as it probably caused this weekends weather.

I imagine those last sessions will be sparse. I may show and do the morning on Sunday

My can-O-pee folded up like a cheap suit from the wind last track day, we may not have any shade this weekend....

Matt, looking forward to your report as you have done enough corner working to know whats what. From my point of view, the track has never been stickier than it was today. The RS10's gave me better feedback than I am used too, they did not slip, slide or give any hint of fatigue as the day and track grew hotter. People seemed to be hauling major a$$ today, the round robin was almost full speed right from the getgo. This could just be my point of view as I am not one of the "fast" riders, and although it seemed that fewer riders went off the track or went down, If I remember correctly the EMT's/Paramedics rolled 3 times(two level 3 riders, and one level 1), which is the most I have seen on my track days. Did anyone get transported to a hospital, or just checked and released? Also, how was the black flag count compared to average? Level 2 came down pretty hard on inside passing after the second session!

No issue keeping heat in the tire on Saturday, post what temps you were using.

It was so hot sitting in the shade in shorts and a T, I salute y'all for having a great day like you did. It helped that the fullest level was 2, at 19 people, 17 for 1, and maybe 15 for level 3, the track was way less crowded. I think the ambulance came twice; the high side in horseshoe guy with one leg, and the wicked crash coming out of 2, I don't remember a third. Black flags seemed down, but there were less riders too.

I've done 10 plus days as corner now. I'm the Valentino Rossi of corner workers, oldest by far, most excited to be there every morning, over it by the end of the season but ready to go come March. I've learned you can go thru the corners of the 1.7 a lot faster than you would imagine. I'm not sure you can learn much more from watching. I see people with good form but you still have to do it. Level 2 is usually the issue, but Saturday it was 3. 2 Grom's ran level 2, and I'm in level 1 on a 135hp bike. So I meant to clock one and see if they were anywhere near the high 1:40's I ran on the 500, so Grom's in 2 on the 1.7, that was new. Other than that fairly normal for RideSmart

Even a cooling suite, track days would be miserable in these temps

Was this by chance the Moto-Bros guy? The guy who does the tires and light mechanical work now? He and his buddy were on the 1.3 on built Groms back in the spring. They were doing alright considering.

Fits the description. I remember a Grom going down earlier this year on the 1.3, maybe that was someone else...

Matt I was about 30-31psi front and rear before going out.
