CANCELED! -New ride type - ADV Sunday March 15th

Post by fixxervi6 » Fri Feb 28, 2020 11:15 pm

CANCELED!

I was going to pre-ride this today, this weather isn't getting any better today so pulling the plug.

Weather dependent so watch for updates -

Kick stands up at 9:00 am - we need to leave on time so arrive early if you want breakfast, if the weather is good I expect lunch to be crowded so I'd like to try to get their early. I will be testing new route guidance so maybe that will spark some additional adventure.

The Route
I'm classifying this ride as ADV however it will be all pavement with a mix of a county road or two, nothing serious. I'm hoping we will meet new faces so this will be all pavement, an "ADV meet and greet pavement ride" if you will. We will meet up on the edge of the metroplex, do equipment checks, a safety briefing, stand around and tell lies for a little bit then head out for a BBQ lunch, again hoping to get their early.

There will be a different route back into the Metroplex ending at our start location to make it easy for anyone not familiar with the area, for those that would like to break off early I can provide simple directions back to the metroplex. Well simple is relative but I haven't gotten anyone lost yet.... that I know of. There will be gas stops and bio-breaks along the way.

The Pace
Pace of the ride will be moderate in lightly graveled areas, country roads, and twisties with a good cruising speed in the straights. Speed will be determined by who attends and on what kind of machines - no one will be left behind, this ride is not about speed. Unless your on a grom, then you'll be left behind.

I will be on a bagged BMW GS1200 and knobbies, my rear tire has seen better days but it still has a safe level of tread remaining. Please show up with your bike in good working mechanical condition, enough tread left to do the entire route (about 165 miles) and a full tank of gas.

Meetup: Sonic on Clifford St. in White Settlement
Kick stands up: 9:00 AM
Get there early if you want food/coffee.

Please be dressed appropriately: helmet, jacket, gloves, over the ankle shoes/boots and long pants.

If we get some turn out, interest, and things go well the ADV portion of the routes will be dialed up and I'll start planning overnights, then bring back the always amazing touring routes of the past. I can't be as active as I used to be with this job, and the fact I have to show my jeep some love but if we can attract a handful of like minded ADV type people, then we can chase down some adventure.

Future potential rides are overnights (primitive camping) into Arkansas, various parks, mixed groups (overland rigs with ADV motorcycles) and multi-state touring rides, assuming the interest is there.

Example of a long weekend big bend ride (I'm not a videographer and I don't play one on TV so don't judge)

Count me in as long as weather permits, and is it OK to post this to the other group I ride with? I would only expect maybe 4 or 5 to show up, including some other adventure riders.

I would have thought chance of cancellation due to the weather, which is looking a little wet at the moment. I wouldn't cancel over COVID-19. If you are that worried about it, we just leave our gloves and helmets on the whole time so we don't touch or cough on each other :ill:. Everyone can bring their own lunch, and will sit in a park with minimum 8 foot spacing eating what we prepared at home. Or further apart if we all have compatible intercoms. :-)

Sure, I'm worried about vulnerable groups, but truth be told, from my own personal perspective, I'm more worried about the economic impact.

It was a joke:-)

But there is a real chance due to weather.
