I know of a few parking lots in my area, I've seen people come out and practice without getting hassled.

great, I like fairings on a bike. I still don't get why they didn't include them on it like most bikes

SV650 fairings are only produced aftermarket now...ie: unpainted. You can get lucky on occasion and find a factory set in good shape. I'm in the process of repairing my lower SV fairings and re-painting them in the factory silver color.

What the hell is wrong with Banana seats huh?! Go look at my intro thread. YA MEANIE.

Just do what I did and put one of those aftermarket seat cowls on it and the other kids will stop making fun of you.

Welcome.

I myself started on an 09 Ninja 650r. Glad I did. I'm a bigger guy at 6'-1" 215lbs and felt that I would be causing a 250 to struggle too much on my 70 mile (there and back) commute. Back when I bought it, the Ninja 300 had just come out and I wanted that but didn't want to spend that much money, hence the 650. The 650 had enough oomph for me without the crazy power of a 600 and had a SUPER comfy banana seat, that at first, I wasn't fond of but grew to love.

Yeah Banana seats are comfortable! Especially for us bigger guys!

ha, nothing really I feel like it looks kinda funny, it isn't as critical as I made it sound but I just cant take them seriously, they look so much more peaceful. but they probably are more comfortable though.

great, I was also concerned about starting on that as well. If the seats really are that comfy then I will take back all my mockery of it :ignore:

Here is a Suzuki Katana 600 for sale in Stephenville that would make a good and reasonably affordable fist bike. Sporty (but manageable), fully faired, pretty decent performance, and it was in much better shape than I expected it to be from the highway. A little crinkle on the exhaust cannister, and the seat has a few minor tears, but the body looks good, and tires have good tread. The for sale signs are taped on with clear tape, so that makes it look worse in the pics than it is in person. $3500 may be a little high, not sure, and I'm unsure of mileage and year model (some of the ex-Katana riders may have a better idea).

That's one hell of a wind screen. Talk about an air brake.

Look, there's a picture of Terry taking a picture! Now that's an artsy bike!!! ;) You know, in retrospect I think I may have taken a crack at this for a 1st bike. I'm happy NOW... but in hindsight... /e cringes

even though it's an inline 4 it would still be a okay starter bike?
NakedDentonite was right in getting me to ignore looks but I've been told that the katana has a hard time selling due to being kinda gross in the face
..... personally I don't know how to feel about the blinkers jutting out like that and reselling could be a problem if that is true.
3,500 was what I was looking to spend originally so that's good but I have about a year before I should buy a bike.

Personally I'm not a fan of them but resale shouldn't be an issue. The key selling point on Katanas is they are good first bikes and the price is almost always low. I would try and get the guy down to under $3000, you ride it for a year or so and should then be able to sell it for around $2500 or so.

I did all of my learning on inline fours, starting with a 550. Nothing at all wrong with doing so. I agree with DS, price of this bike needs to come down a little probably, depending on year model and mileage. It would make a really good first bike. No worries about power, too much or not enough. It would allow you to focus on learning.
