Greetings from Arlington Texas

Post by skids » Mon Jun 13, 2016 4:20 pm

I started riding dirtbikes when I was a kid. I got my motorcycle endorsement when I turned 16 and ive been riding since. That was 31 years ago.

I guess I went about it all backwards because in the 80s while my friends were riding the newly released GSXRs, i stuck with "standard" bikes. (There were many) For some reason I loved V45 & V65s back in the day. I rode one recently, i don't see what my fascination was.

Fast forward to today. I'm too old to be riding proper supersport bikes. It hurts my wrists and my hands fall asleep. I recently sold my 01 Kawi ZRX1200r which I owned for a couple of years. I fell in love with that type of riding. Plus, everyone that I enjoyed hanging out with and riding with shared my tastes in bikes and type of rides. I never fit in with the Harley or big cruiser crowd.

I recently became interested in small displacement bikes and I bought my first new bike ever a couple of months ago, a 16 Yamaha R3. Now my friends don't exactly know what to think about it, but I can still run away and hide from all but one of them through the twisties so they can think what they want. I love going through the twisties better than going 150 anyway.

I created a forum for R3 owners. r3fans.com

Welcome! I like the new 300's, had a chance to go on a ride where a guy had a 390, I was impressed with it's power output compared to like the CBR500

Welcome to the boards. I too have had issues with hand falling asleep and wrist hurting. I know how to fix that issue. Also, we have a bike night tomorrow so if you are not working or have other obligations, feel free to join us (the thread for that is under the club events thread).

Thanks everyone. I look forward to meeting some new friends and having some new riding partners. Some of my peeps are fair-weather riders and don't like to go out as much as I do. Here's a couple of pics. The one of the full bike is a little out-of-date. I've already started modding. I added a fender eliminator, an annitori quickshifter, bar end mirrors (originals were worthless), radiator guard, an oem pillion bag for my stuff (you can see it in the pics). Still to come, I want to mod the front and rear suspension for better handling.

Sorry for the HUGE pics =)

Hey Skids, glad to see another Arlington biker out to play and that we have the same number of trips around the sun is another thing we have in common. Una pregunta, como es que un hombe blonco como usted habla espanol?

Mucho gusto. Siempre he querido aprender español. Aprendí español y portugués en la Universidad de Tejas en Arlington. Quedé en Cuernavaca el verano pasado. Son mucho oportunidades a conocer nuevos amigos hispanos en Tejas. Me gusta la cultura. Y usted? De donde es usted? Como sabe español?

If Monster shows up and y'all are around, she will gladly join in on the espanol as she is bilingual AND she is teaching herself Russian, german and will be taking arabic this fall. I understood everything y'all said but I never had anyone to practice with so I suck at speaking or writing it. LOL!

She loves languages. I don't know where that love comes from but I am not going to knock her for it.

You guys...such bullshitters. :-) K-pesos, yo quiero Taco Bell.

Nice bikes, but man, those pictures are BIG. :SideSplittingLaughter: Seriously, the R3 is nice, but the ZRX is way cool, always loved those. Welcome again.

Welcome Skids.
Sorry I'm late to the conversation, but I also live in Arlington - right by Green Oaks, near the lake.
I dont ride on the street anymore, track and dirt only for me these days. I take my kids riding on a grass field in Haslet as often as I can. If you ever want to get back on dirt let me know. I have a spare dirtbike and we go out 2-3 times a month.
