Greetings From Irving!
Greetings From Irving!
Hey, my name is GQ and I just found this club through a friend from college. I'm a first year rider (started riding last November) and so far have put in 6,000 miles in a span of 3 bikes.
I'm a professional photographer (http://www.duccao.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and got into riding through shooting an AMA event in Houston. I took the MSF course in November and that was where I learned how to ride. My very first bike was a 2008 Ninja 250 in which I've racked up 2,000 miles before I sold it in December.
I've then moved on to a YZF600R (aka Thundercat) which was a first for me on many levels (including a total engine swap in an apartment complex parking lot!). I've racked up about 3,000 miles on that bike before I sold it in February. Now I moved on to a 2003 R6 and couldn't be happier!
My main goals this riding season is to get my knees down and learn proper cornering techniques in time for my trip to Deal's Gap this summer.
I look forward to riding with you guys soon!
Here is a pic of my current girlfriend and my friend's Buell X1:

Welcome to the group.
I wouldnt worry too much about gettin your knee down. Focus mostly on improving your technique and the knee will happen when needed.

Yeah, if you spend all day at the track trying to touch your knee, you'll end up with some crappy form. If you work on good form and just getting smoother and faster you'll touch your knee and not even realize you're leaned over that far.

Re: Greetings From Irving!
Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Is the bike night a FWMR exclusive thing or is it like a city wide kind of thing? I've attended a few bike nights in Dallas (at High 5 Cycles) and although they were pretty fun, the riding did tend to get reckless and dangerous. How do you guys ride? I'm looking for a group ride that is fast paced although not squiddishly dangerous-- like going a buck fifty down a crowded interstate!!

Bike nights for FWMR is more of a Happy Hour meet & greet - talk motorcycling. We want to get to know you, you get to know us and become a member of our extended family.duc wrote:Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Well then maybe next month. Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Ride or cage it to bike night, although with the nicer weather, more people will be riding. Or feel free to join us on any moderate ride posted.

Twist of the wrist II DVD and go to youtube and lookup Ty Howard good stuff on body posistion.DarcShadow wrote:Yeah, if you spend all day at the track trying to touch your knee, you'll end up with some crappy form. I watched them and realized a bunch of crap I was doing wrong and have been slowly correcting, and I can also pick apart youtube videos of where people aren't getting the maximum out they could get when they have their knee down, all crossed up is the most common one, second one is twisting around the tank to get the knee on the pavement on purpose.
Guess thats the difference between someone dragging a knee and someone thats fast, someone said someplace it should be a result not a goal.
