New One

Post by Archibald » Sat Nov 05, 2011 9:42 pm

Hello, my name is Jason. I was riding (more like puting) on 455 today and this guy passed me going pretty good so I decided I'd try to keep up with him. We rode all the way to 377 where we finally stopped. He told me about this site so I'm here to check it out. Sounded like something nice to get involved in. The other rider's name was Miles.

Thanks. Today was great for me. That was the first time I really pushed myself and the bike. It's a lot different from riding a cruiser. I'll be learning more each time I ride. Fortunately for me I can be a fast learner. Today I learned I need to change my rear suspension to a firmer setting, it's way too soft for the country roads with not so smooth road surfaces.

I would try a different road before you go tweaking, 455 is a really BAD road surface to be judging your suspension by it.

We discussed 455 today and he kept in my path so it wasn't horrible. I also told him about new hope:) truth is the best money I've ever spent was paying them to have my suspension set up at the track. I doubt anyone would disagree. Pics of your bike?

The sands in the pics are from a ride to South Padre Island 2 weeks ago. Currently the rear suspension is set to the softest level (it was that way when I bought it) and is really too soft for me anyway. Today just helped make the decision to adjust it. 455 wasn't "that" bad once I learned to follow Miles' line and watch his movements. I will gets some pics as soon as I get a new camera, my last one had an "accident" while in South Padre... :icon_rolleyes:

There's a guide for suspension setup in the Bike Maintenance if you want to give adjusting it yourself a shot. It's not really hard, the only tricky part is knowing how far to adjust something. The guide has a good starting point setup and then you can just tweak it till you get it to what feels good to you.

Or you can just have a shop set it up. Roger from OnRoad-OffRoad is usually at all the RideSmart trackdays and will adjust your setup for $30.

I am always up to ride also, well most of the time when the weather is above 70, wind is below 20, not on thursdays, or evey first third and fifth weekend and odd numbered tuesdays or Aggie game day's, or spring break. Other than that I am wide OPEN!!

Oh, Aggie days don't matter as much because we only play the 1st half apparently.....so after halftime might as well go out and ride!!!
