Moving to Fort Worth TX

Post by Lewi1913 » Mon Nov 07, 2011 4:55 pm

Hey guys,

I am moving to FW in a month, and looking for people to ride with. I will be living in North FW. I am moving there from Washington DC, and I ride a 2009 CBR600RR.

I haven't been out there too much, just once. Usually did backroads in Northern VA, sometimes in MD.

Up that way is my old stomping grounds, you won't find roads like that around here thats for sure, but we aren't totally bland. There are some good spots, the trick is you have to be willing to do some boring flat to get to it, but it exists.

Welcome to the boards. A lot of the roads within the metroplex are crap (too many raging caging fools or just not taken care of). To get to some nice Texas roads (notice I said "nice Texas roads"), you have to be willing to ride a little ways outside of the metroplex to get in a nice ride.

Redskins, is that, like football? I don't do sports, motogp is about as sporty as I get. I am a classic geek. I have seen it written that this is a nerd club that rides motorcycles, I resemble that.

In terms of heat, this is the valley of the shadow of the death. I grew up with that weather up there, I take my vacations up that way in August to escape the heat, no joke.

However, we be Texans, we suck it up at go out anyway, well at least the men among us do (and some women!). Suck it up in the cold too, and not all of us run from rain. I do back down to hail and tornado's however, everyone has their limits.

The good?

It's not too painful to ride year round here, no putting the bike away for snow season (normally). And we do have a lot of tracks in the area, if you don't go to the track it's like keeping your dog in a cage!

It'll be all good, just gotta come out so these guys can show you the good spots, they do exist.

The bike is really nice. I will still talk to you even if you are a Redskins fan. In fact you can come on over to my house to watch the Redskins and Dallas game if you would like. The good news is where you are going to be living you wont be to far from the stadium and you will be able to watch the Redskins games 2x a year usually.

Saginaw isn't too bad. If my wife and I end up moving in the next couple of years it'll probably be over there (near her relatives). We're up on the border of Ft. Worth and Roanoke currently. Like most said, you've got to ride a bit to get to the fun roads, but we do have them.

Look forward to meeting you! If you're here in a month or so, maybe you can meet up with us at Bike Night on Dec. 8th! If it's too cold to ride, you can cage it too. Most of us do, except for a few crazies that like to ride in the snow and ice. :-?

Welcome Lew. This is a great bunch of folks. Have you ever done a track day? The seasons over now but next year we'll be going to the track on a regular basis.

On a side note - is that a sticker on your fork slider?

Boy will we ever. A bunch of us became new track addicts this year. I'm pretty sure there will be a club presence at every event at the two closest tracks (Motorsports Ranch Cresson and Eagle's Canyon Raceway), plus I have a hunch some of us will be making trips down to College Station and/or Houston. I'm planning on at least one trip to each of those tracks down there next season, and Fixxer expressed interest as well. Plus I'll be hitting Barber and hopefully Heartland Park next year too.
