Re: FNG in Keller, 08 CBR1000rr
And it may sound crazy, but you actually stay a more comfortable temp wise when wearing a jacket. I speak from experence, I too started out riding with just jeans and t-shirt, occasionally shorts, and rarely a lid (not required in Indiana). The thing about riding in a t-shirt vs, a leather jacket, the jacket slows down/reduces the wind on you. In a t-shirt it's like riding in a furnice, hot dry air hitting you non stop. With a jacket, you don't get hit with as much air, so you have a chance to sweat a little which then keeps you cooler as the air that does get through the jacket hits the sweat. I really was surprised how comfortable I was able to stay wearing a leather jacket my first summer.
There are also cooling vest that work really well when worn under a good jacket, so don't let heat be the reason for not wearing good gear. When I ride now I'm always in a fell helmit, gauntlet gloves, boots, leather jacket and jeans(not ideal, but better then nothing) or full one-piece suit.

First line, you mean "jacket"

I disagree. The hole in my foot was much worse than the rash.
Granted, that may have been location. A forearm isn't nearly as bad as other places would be.

Yeah, your foot was pretty bad but I don't think that injury is something bikers experience very often. I think you are one of the rare riders but it was bad regardless. Imagine what would have happend to your foot if you had on flip flops!

I think my broken arm, knee, head, orbital socket, nose, and ribs was worse.

I think those are some of the injuries riders experience more than Rhino's hole in his foot
Re: FNG in Keller, 08 CBR1000rr
I laid my Buell down without wearing gloves, I know roadrash A couple weekends ago we rolled a Polaris Rzr in a cement parking lot with no helmets or seatbelts, more roadrash and alot of pain. Going back Friday for more X-Rays. I'll post more when I get home here ina few
Re: FNG in Keller, 08 CBR1000rr
I didn't say its the worst, but when you have road rash accross parts of your body that bend it is a real shitty, I've had really bad rash before on my side, and from my hip to my ankle.Rhino wrote:I disagree. The hole in my foot was much worse than the rash.

This just makes it worse, you should already know better and wear a good jacketBewst wrote:I laid my Buell down without wearing gloves, I know roadrash A couple weekends ago we rolled a Polaris Rzr in a cement parking lot with no helmets or seatbelts, more roadrash and alot of pain. I had on a Buell zip up sweatshirt, slid on my side and then on my back for about 30ft. I still wear it today and you'd never know, lol. I got lucky...except for using my gloves to cover my Oakley's so they didnt get scratched in the trunk. I tried to wheelie out of a corner and came down on my side, slungshot myself down the road.

This was my bike before the Race ECM and D&D Exhaust. It took the slide pretty good. The frame puck took most, the handlebar/grip/my hand were grinded into the ground, ripped the front turn signal off and a little scratch on the swingarm.
Here's my hand with the line to where the infection got to....that is DEEEEEP rash...
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 4689_n.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Then the Rzr was a stupid mistake. Was supposed to be a fun ride, well 4psi in the tire...broadsliding...tire rolls...rim catches cement....pole vault... came down on my side with my step bro landing on my and pretty much sitting on me as we slid down the pavement....worst wreck ever, even in car wrecks
My ear...ripped cartilage with some minor rash. My head was bulged out in a could spots with missing hair and rash all over the side of my head. They ended up glueing my ear back.

And my beautiful elbow with 2 stitches...

Hope you like the beautiful pics, lol

Wisdom, sounds like something I said awhile backmilesmiles wrote:If it's too hot to wear your gear then it's too hot to ride!
Honestly, when I get on a bike, I treat it as if I am in danger, and can go down anytime.
Most crashes will happen not from your own fault, but external things (sand, oil, rain, leaves, pothole, cager, semi-truck, etc).
Bottom line, why jeopardize your quality of life for years to come, because you didn't want to wear the right gear?

By the way, I was never taught that SQUID meant squirrelly kid...
I was told that someone with no gear was a squid, because when they go down, their unprotected body flops around like a dead squid on the pavement

Hah, that's a good analogy! Yep, I always dress for the crash. In anything I ride or drive. Even sex0r!

One of the most common injuries to motorcycle riders is foot and ankle injuries. Good riding boots that provide ankle support are necissary. Tennis shoes just don't cut it.Telomere wrote:I think those are some of the injuries riders experience more than Rhino's hole in his foot

I wouldn't mind wearing all the gear. I just didn't wanna be the guy in a full race suit, boots, gloves, helmet, etc and not have that great of riding skill, lol. "Poser" comes to mind, lol. But I guess being safe > what others think.

Gearing up doesn't make anybody look like a poser. In fact the opposite is true.
Just last night I saw a couple morons in downtown Ft. Worth riding with full-face helmets sitting on top of their heads, i.e. just pressed down enough to stay on while their faces were uncovered.
I'm guessing they were under 21 and so required to wear helmets, but didn't actually want any real protection. Neither was wearing any other protective gear.
They looked like posers. Real motorcyclists would never do dumb shit like that.

No, we only do that running up and down the 1/4 mile drive to the gas station at the track.
