Thought it would be close, didn't think it would actually happen. In the short term this is going to be painful.

People all over the world are voting for freedom. I hope the trend continues.

I think it's ironic that the most colonial country in the history of the world just voted for independence from a controlling body......

Texas won't leave the US.

I also heard that Ireland and Scotland both want to vote to get out of the UK. Things could get interesting.

From what I read right after this was confirmed, were that they stayed with the EU. Other than that, I don't know.

Ireland is an independent country already. Scotland wanted to stay in the EU, so they will have a referendum to leave the UK.

I think the issue is more with Northern Ireland, which is a constituent of the UK, vs. the independent Republic of Ireland. Generally NI has leaned towards staying with the UK rather than joining Ireland. Because of the religious issues involved I don't see that changing because of this.

Fun fact: The Standard EU membership dues are 1% of GDP. In the case of the UK they get a rebate, then the EU also spends money in the UK. Total net is an outflow of about $10B (US) from the UK to the EU. Or about $150 (US) per person in the UK.

I just don't get why UK leaving the EU impacted the stock market the way it did.

I am glad I did. I seriously did try to read it...but I had to keep going back to reread what I read because it didn't stick. After 10 minutes of doing that with the first paragraph, I closed it. :D

The part that made me laugh is that I thought about all the boring stuff you have probably had to read for school lol.

If anything, it will be interesting. I hope for the best, though I'm discouraged by the immediate backtracking of core promises that drove the vote.

I think that the people trying to start a new referendum are not helping even their own cause. They need to get the split done quickly to minimize the immediate impacts to their economy. This is one of those cases where even if you don't like the decision trying to reverse it is worse than just getting it done.

If they do decide the want back in this quickly they will not be in any position to negotiate terms.
