Confederate Flags

Post by DarcShadow » Thu Jan 19, 2017 7:52 am

Just learned something new, the flag we all think of when you think of the Confederate Flag, was never actually the flag of the confederate, it is actually the second design for the Confederate Nave Jack, and was based on The Army of Northern Virginia (General Lee) square battle flag.

The actual confederate flag went through several variations. It started out looking like our normal flag, but only had 2 red stripes and one white and 13 stars in the blue arranged in a circle. The second design was an all white flag, with the square battle flag of Northern Virginia in the top left corner. The final version added a large red vertical strip on the right side of the flag.

None of this changes what the Rebel Flag means to people today, but I found it interesting that it was not the flag people think it was.

And people think the civil war was only about slavery. That was only part of it. Mostly it was about the South not paying taxes.

Yep, it's the Navy Jack. But it still represents the modern idea of Southern independence from Northern aggression.
