I have to give some major credit to Terry: he came out to a new-to-him track, worked hard, listened to and tried to implement all of my suggestions, and even got back on after crashing his beloved street bike. That's not an easy thing to do, and it showed some true character!! I was also impressed how much he improved his lines between the morning and the afternoon. Since line and body position are critically important on the track, I was really emphasizing both and even nitpicking apexes when they were starting to get good, and he continued to work until he nailed most of them (even the first apex of T6, which was his nemesis). The crash was unfortunate, and I'm glad that he came out okay. Water in a turn is an unfair opponent that is best avoided, especially at ECR. That turn has taken out many people at track days, because water tends to pool on or near the line.

As for the helmet, I would send it in to Arai to get it inspected. If its still good, then it can be your track helmet (just carry a printout of the inspection, just in case the tech guy gives you crap over it).

Thanks Thomas. I've been called a character before, I don't specifically recall being lauded with having it. Thanks.

I emailed Arai yesterday, to ask about what services they provide, but it was late, and no answer yet.

Thanks for the great instruction, and patience.

I didn't sleep much the night before ECR, which was probably part of the problem. I've slept pretty good since. I woke up much less sore today, I was almost too sore to move at times last night before bedtime.

I don't remember, I think Bell and Shoei do it - I seriously can't remember where I got it from.
Here's the official reply from Arai...

We do offer a free inspection in our Pa. shop if a helmet has been dropped or crashed and it is not over 7 years old and there were no head injuries. We do ask for a check for $20.00 to cover return shipping costs. I a helmet is found to still be safe to use, we can replace certain parts (vents, etc.) and they would call you for a credit card number to cover the parts. We do not have a replacement or discount program for helmets that have had a damaging incident.

On a side note, Arai has just about always warrantied their helmets for 5 years, and that's still their quoted warranty time. I guess that's where I came up with the "5 years and it needs to be replaced", or I read it somewhere, I don't recall for sure. Anyway, this leads you to believe that their recommendation is at 7 years - ?

4:38 long. You'll eventually see Striple sprinting down the track, then the slow-mo after the bike is picked back up.

Yes, I had just picked up the pace, which you can hear in the video, so I had more lean and throttle than the previous trips through that spot.

It spun up big time....then caught on the dry pavement. It was quick when it happened too. For a split second, you can see me crossing up and trying to manage the tail kicking out, but that ended rather abruptly, and I didn't possess the skill to manage it anyway.

As I replay it in my mind, I envision staying on the throttle and drifting it out, wheelieing up the hill, and passing Thomas as he bows in reverence. :-)

Just a dumbass move on my part on an iffy spot on a cool damp day. The track is somewhat challenging, but definitely it wasn't unmanageable for me had I maintained better focus on where/what/when.

Again, Glad your ok. Looks to me like the rear grabbed, maybe bucked you from the seat, and when you came down it threw the bike off, and low sided pretty hard.
