3:16 track day 3-18-19 Cresson 1.7

Post by WickerMan » Tue Mar 19, 2019 10:08 am

So I corner worked for 3:16 yesterday as a fill in. It's a little different. There are 2 groups. Passing is allowed anywhere and on either side in both groups. Each groups first session is 30min. After that it's one hour sessions per group. There are less riders as I saw about 26 in the slower and about 30 in the faster group. A standing white flag is used before the checkered.
We had 2 minor low sides I think, and a half dozen mowers and that was about it, we don't make notes. That's about it.

They claim it sold out, so that would be full for them. This sounds more like a traditional track day than RideSmart, which admittedly bills itself as more of a school than just a track day. With the longer sessions and the lax rules it seems like they are targeting racers more than RS is. I don't know how I feel about 1 hour sessions. It may work better with the coaching arrangement they have. I also think RS is a little too far the other way, sessions are too short and there are too many. Maybe half an hour would be better.

Yeah, an hour seems a bit long. But I'm sure it's a more relaxed session in that people meander on and off the track as they like and no one actually stays on track for a full hour.

An hour off track could help with the rushed feeling as well.

There were considerably more number plates than at a RS event. And at any time past the 20min point the field could be down a third to two thirds. With 4 groups at COTA you get the hour between sessions and it makes for a nicer track experience.
