scavenger hunt

Post by milesmiles » Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:21 pm

So we have been playing the picture game for a bit now and things are starting to heat up. While we are playing that lets start brain storming on a fun scavenger game. I like the idea of a list of 200 off the wall items to find and the first wins(maybe we can copy the same from the busa forum, that way things are even). Or even something like dave suggested. Open to anything right now

Could always just talk to the guys up at Eurosport and get a copy of their previous scavenger hunt items.

i like that idea Will, that way it makes it fair to pretty much everyone. Unless someone on the forum wants to make the list, but not play....

Agree, I'm game for using the Eurosport ones.

Can anybody grab a copy before bike night? I think it's fair to go with the 2nd Thursday bike nights as the cutoff points, so we can play all year.

I like this idea. If this gets "too easy" and the same person seems to win every time, we always make it harder. Instead of it being a solo event, we could do it as a team event (more like 4-5 bikes) AND every bike has to be in the picture at the same time...unless there are objects that we have to bring to bike night.

I would say it would have to be around the area to make it fair to everyone else. If on a team too, it would be more fun :D

I don't know what's on the EuroSport list. If we make our own, I'm thinking DFW area stuff should be small points with further away stuff being worth bigger points.

Boundaries should probably be within 500 miles, so the really far out stuff is still achievable on a weekend. No trips to Alaska or anything like that.

For team stuff, there shouldn't be anything that only one person can get, so if people want to team up and ride to Galveston for points one weekend they can do that, but then rack up more points individually if they want to do that.

Edit: And obviously not everything has to be landmarks that involve long rides. Sure, there should be some for the spirit of riding somewhere to score points, but other stuff should be silly and doable anywhere, like a girl in a bikini on your bike, or your bike wearing a party hat or something.

Well that stuff is stuff that can go in the normal photo game. The whole purpose of the scavenger hunt is to go riding to find the item.

They don't have to be high point value, but why would you try to keep bikinis out of anything?

I wouldn't. Just a bikini girl on your bike would be for the photo thread. Now something like "one of the waitresses on your bike, from the restaurant in Gainesville where all the waitresses wear bikinis." That would be the scavenger hunt.

Contacted Eurosport. If the guy can find any copies of old scavenger hunts he will email them to me. He says they normally trash that kind of stuff right after the event though.

As for pictures, I have an idea that would not clog up the forum. Everyone who wants to participate can create an album in the gallery member section, with a folder labeled "Scavenger - August 2011" (Assuming it is a monthly competition) or something like that. Upload your photos there, and then just post up where you visited and the date in the thread.

Is the point going to be for visiting the location, or for the first person to visit and document the location. Like say there are 50 things to visit, if the winner whoever visits the most, or is the winner whoever visits the most first?

I was already thinking of 2 scavenger hunt themes, but they would be more like a seasonal (or annual) competitions.

I also kinda like the teams idea. To make people coordinate to visit the places. We could see how many people are interested in playing, and then try to split into teams of about 3-5 bikes. Draw cards at bike night, and the people who draw spades are the team leaders and get to choose members of their team.

I like the idea of "visited the most" instead of "visited the most first" so everybody can schedule around their lives and still be competitive.

We could have a spouse do the list for us. Or the person that wins makes the new list and does not play that month. Or make 2 list and take a vote on which one to use then the person that made the list has to use the other list.

Ok, that list is BAD ASS, and you can do 99% of it solo. A couple (like a medical marijuana dispensary) I'm not sure if you can do here.
