Yamaha R1

Post by fixxervi6 » Sat Jul 11, 2015 10:04 pm

Has anyone here ridden a 2009+ Yamaha R1 with the cross plane motor?

Anyone remember that link where it shows the body positions of each bike compared?

Not really, kind of exploring options.

I may end up needing a less aggressive body position bike

All of the pre-2015 cross-plane under seat exhaust R1s are known for roasting your ass and manly parts. Not sure if a full (low mount) exhaust swap remedies that or not. But they sure are pretty.

New Tuano, or the BMW equivalent. Or of course the mighty Super Duke R, but it's a twin.

I'm not opposed to a twin, but I refused to ride a naked.

Well, you do have to be comfortable with your manliness before you can make the switch. :D

Ty Howard just barely missed the first place 3 weeks ago at NoLa racing Formula 1 on a Super Duke. Like a couple of thousandths. Super Duke ain't no BS.

Thanks but no, the S1000rr is not on the list.

Long term I have some plans to retain the ape but I'm thinking ahead to just in case I can't, if I had to go to like a beamer I would just go to a GSXR liter first.

Thought the ergonomics where more relaxed on the BMW but I could be wrong. The ZX14 would be another one to think about.

It is, but I don't care for the beamer especially for the associated price tag.

Funny, the first thing that happened when I got on that BMW (aside from going like 170) was that I thought that it felt like a gixxer.

Yeah looks like they start out at about $11-12k used.

But that comment was more in response to

There looks to be a solid selection of GSXR1000s in the $5-6k range but they will have to be unstretched. :icon_wtf:

Note to self...Do NOT ride my stretched CBR to the next club ride as planned. And don't let JT know I have it.

Ha. I have no qualms about stretching a Blackbird, Busa, or zx12/zx 14. But when you stretch anything else, it just ain't right. Stretch something that can't handle already.

I'm ok with a stretched liter bike, so long as it's not street legal, but there is something not right about a stretched 600.

JT/DS, it sound like you two bought 600cc (+/-) bikes so you wouldn't be tempted to stetch them. I guess that's kind of like staying out of the liquor store if you're an alcoholic, so nice to see you're both making good life choices. :-)

I don't understand stretched 600's either. I was at the strip one night and saw a stretched kawi 1K running some insane times, that was a good stretched bike.
