Ok to pass?

Post by DarcShadow » Tue Jul 19, 2016 4:24 pm

Is it ok to pass a firetruck with lights and siren on if the truck is going well below the speed limit?

Saw this over the weekend and it made me wonder. The truck was on the new toll road where the limit is 75, but it was only doing about 65, if that, and cars were passing it like you would any other slow vehicle. You're suppose to slow down and pull over to let them pass, but when they are going so much slower than the flow of traffic what's the rule?

Quick google search didn't find anything.

I'm guessing the truck is speed limited. Not sure what to do in that situation, though. I would probably pass, assuming there wasn't a cop around.

No it is not. If the emergency vehicle has it's lights and siren on, all vehicles must yield right of way to the emergency vehicle regardless of the speed the emergency vehicle is doing and regardless of whether the vehicle is behind you or approaching from the opposite direction. From what I read, yielding right of way means you must pull over and completely stop on the side of the road until all emergency vehicles have safely passed.

I pass. I've seen them doing like 65 on the freeway and I go by them doing like 85 or 90, my ass isn't slowing down to follow them however far they are going on that road. The way I see it, I'm not impeding them in any way so I pass.

Apparently it will vary state to state, found a thing from Utah where a Highway Patrol Lt. said it's not advisable, but not illegal either.

Utah is one of those places were right is left and left is democrat! I hear a lot of strange things go in in those Mormon temples, but that is another thread!

P.S. Are there any Mormons or Post Mormons here besides myself? Don't want to offend.

Don't think so but I knew a Mormon and I had no idea he was Mormon (because of his actions and the way he talked).

:SideSplittingLaughter: It was the way he talked too....hitting on women and all. When he said he was Mormon, I just about fell on the floor because the other Mormon we worked with was the complete opposite (quiet, conserved, very calm...and he road a motorcycle too).

I've sat beside a man who claimed to be Mormon that dropped acid and did a line of crank right in front of me. You can claim to be whatever you want.

And that's why you don't go to a dealership with fixxer, he'll Jedi mind-trick you into buying a bike. I'm fairly certain he's getting kickbacks.

That only works on the weak-minded. Do we have any of those around here? Not that I can see from reading the politics/religion threads.

Well, dufremle and stoney may have succumbed to it at least a little. And of course if you look at his garage, he's pretty good at Jediing himself too.
