Terry Jenkins AKA LonestarCBR

Post by fixxervi6 » Sat Jul 23, 2016 10:23 pm

7-23-2016

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this, but FWMR has lost one of their own today, Terry Jenkins AKA LonestarCBR passed away today shortly sometime before noon.

Terry was an asset to the club, he was active and took on a leadership role as ride leader. He was one of the most knowledgeable riders with the roads in the area that I had ever met, he regularly ran these roads on his own – Terry was a solid rider.

Everyone that met Terry liked him, and when you travel with someone you form a bond with them, Terry and I traveled to Arkansans together and shared some of the best roads this country has to offer. We spoke of the trip often and even today we were talking about going back again. One of the things that stood out to me about Terry was his drive to live life doing what he wanted to do, while in Arkansas we swapped some of our medical war stories. During our war story conversation, I mentioned about how people would ask me why I still ride after my injuries and my reply was “because I am not in the ground yet” and Terry said “That’s exactly how I feel, I’m going to keep going until I can’t”. That statement really stood out to me.

There were five us out on a ride today, the plan was to head down to Loco Coyote for lunch. Part of the route included FM51, the twisty section. I was on my GS1200 since my RSV4 is still setup for the track and was running near the front. When we were going down FM51 we started spreading out, Terry was running in the back. Every few turns I would look in my mirror and see a rider exit a corner so everything appeared to be fine.

When I arrived at the end of FM51 no one was behind me, my initial thought was someone behind me must have just run off, so I turned around expecting to go a couple of turns and finding a rider sitting on the side of the road, instead I traveled a few miles back up FM51 when I came upon the scene.

Terry ran off in a left hand turn, ran down the grass on the shoulder and into a tree. There was nothing unusual about the turn, no gravel, pot holes, skid marks or drag marks. No one saw the event and there were no go-pro’s running so the only thing we have to go off of was what was found at the scene. Terry was a solid rider and knew the road well, the pace was well within his skill level so we suspect there may have been other health issues at play. Three of the troopers and DPS officers arrived investigated the scene and agreed there seemed to be nothing unusual about the turn and they mentioned that we needed to consider there may have been a health event that lead to the crash.

Unfortunately, we will probably never know what caused the accident, it could have been a heart attack, the heat causing just enough fatigue to generate that split second delay in judgement, or simple mistake any of us can make – ultimately it doesn’t matter.

The reality is any time any of us throws our leg over one of these machines and heads out we are taking a risk, dirt, track, back country roads or commuting motorcycling has it’s inherit dangers, Terry knew this well and chose to do what he loved.

I am not an EMT, or a doctor, but I can tell you that he did not suffer and it was quick, he left this world doing what he loved.

For those that are interested in attending, I will provide information about his arrangements when they become available.

Godspeed Terry

Terry was a great guy. You could see that through his family and how he cared for the club. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone who was lucky enough to know him. He will be missed.

Terry will be missed greatly. Hold strong brothers and sisters. Lean on eachother during hard times like these. I realize how much harder this is for those on the ride than it is the rest of us and if anyone needs someone to talk to give me a call. Ill be doing my best to come out for the funeral and hope to get together with everyone diring that visit.

words cannot describe how sad I have been since Terry's passing. He was a great friend and was always quick to give good advice on anything and everything. I think his passing shows we should cherish each moment with our friends as that may be the last time we see them alive. Missing you Terry.

This is just so surreal and I am still in disbelief. His banter on the boards will be missed, as well as, his advice from personal experiences.

Terry always had a smile on his face...even when he was leading his last ride to be RL and his headlights fell off. He was cracking jokes and laughing as he was duct taping and JB welding it.

I learned Thursday night that there was a members ride on Saturday. I fully intended on being there and ended up taking my daughter to swim lessons.

When I learned of the events Saturday I was torn apart. Although our group knew Terry for a short 3 years he affected me in a way that only my step father had previously done. Terry reminded me a lot of my step father. They fought a very similar fight with cancer which my step father suddenly lost after a few years. I had a great appreciation for Terry's friendship and realized how privileged I was to know him. I always looked forward to seeing him at bike nights and rides. When he wasn't there I felt they were a little incomplete. He was caring and had a gratitude for life that was apparent in the things he did. Terry left a mark on my soul that will always be there.

It was an honor knowing you. Rest in peace, my friend.

Yeah, we heard he stopped you (after seeing you riding around like you were lost) and asked if you were looking for Hard 8. How funny!! I am surprised he never gave you a hard time over that.

Flowers can be purchased through the funeral home's website and from Terry's obit http://www.lacyfuneral.com/notices/Terry-Jenkins

Flowers are expensive, so if anyone would like to chip in, let me know. They range from $100 to $1500; however, if enough people wanted to contribute, we could get a nice display that can be a wreath or specialty spray, flower basket, casket arrangement, plants, or fruit basket. I know from my sister's death, that my brother-in-law was inundated with flowers and food, of which, he threw most of it out. Everyone has their preference and I know what I would want if I were in her shoes right now (I do not know what Amy would want or prefer). Maybe a preference of just giving Amy money to help her in this difficult would be more preferable than flowers.

Let me know if you would rather contribute for flowers or just cash for Amy...the cash can help her with any costs she has to endure right now. I don't know if it is better if we give her a card from the club with everyone's John Hancock or individual or maybe we do both. Something from the club would be meaningful because we all know how much Terry loved this club.

I plan to go to the viewing.

The club will be sending flowers so if anyone wants to donate money it can go to Amy, or their church/charity in Terry's name. I never know what to do, money is so impersonal but there isn't much else one can do/give outside of general support.
