Honda V4 - depending on why your selling, why would you consider trading?

I like certain years of the VFR

I think the VFR, in good condition, even with higher mileage is going to appeal to a much larger crowd than your ZZR. Those have a strange cult following, as they are excellent, powerful, sport touring bikes.

I was looking at one not long ago. 2002, I think, was when they went to the VTEC engine. From what I read, in that first generation the transition to 4 valve operation was a bit abrupt. This was a concern for some people in general, but mostly people complained about it kicking in while rolling on mid-corner. Otherwise most of what I saw was good.

I used to ride with a guy who had one and i rode it a handful of times. I do not remember what year it was but pre vtec. He liked it for road work and was a regular in the canyons with me for 4-5 years. he got rid of it after the first year or so because while it did have some sporting prowess, it was not a sport bike. It can be hustled but it will not compare to a hardcore sports bike, probably not even close to your street triple, but that is just a guess. It will tour well and let you carve canyons when you get there.

it handles well, has a decently powerful but very smooth engine, typical honda great build quality. A little more pricey to maintain but nothing serious (valve adjustment is a bit labor intensive.) They look super cool, sound even better and have a sweet single sided swingarm.

if it is in decent shape with low mileage, why not, i cannot see the value between your vstrom and a vfr being very different and there will always be a market for the vfr. those old guys are whacky, buying 90's and 2000s nostalgia. what are they thinking?

is it red? pretty sure the red models are the fastest.

Red is for sure the fastest. Unless it's an Aprilia, they just break down quicker.

If I get Red Jim will get mad. I have to work out what's going on with the RSV4 before I bury it, I'm afraid it's not going to be a quick process. I'm going to follow up this Friday to see if the engine teardown has been done yet.

The 2002-2009 (2009 was the last year of the 6th gen in the US) is all the same basic bike. There were rolling changes from the 2002 to 2006. The 02 to 05 the VTEC engagement was at a higher RPM. There was also a wiring harness improvement on the 06+. Other than that, it's cosmetics and colors. Only issues I've had with mine so far is the rear brake plunger screw mount came loose so the rear brake peddle was actuating the light all the time and one of the bolts fell out of the side stand. Both easy fixes. When the ambient temps get hot it can be hard to start after sitting. A quick blip of the throttle while cranking it can overcome that issue. She's heavier than my SV and not as nimble especially with the bags. I find the suspension really soft, but I'm 220lbs. I've put an Ohlins rear shock on it and looking at having the front forks fixed with emulators or springs or both. If you are really looking at the VFR, I'd get one with the bags on it. It's about $1000 to add them aftermarket or buying used OEM if you can find them. Certain colors of bags are really hard to find. White is one that is almost impossible to find unless you do a knockoff bag. The bags come off with the turn of a key so mine are taken off and put on a lot depending on what I need the bike for. Mine has a Sargent seat that is pretty comfortable and the original owner put Helibars on it so the riding position is more upright. He had peg lowering mounts, but I took those off. Felt like my feet were too close to the ground. They weren't...it just felt that way. Overall, she's been good to me. It's a fun bike, but I personally wouldn't take it to the track unless I could really lighten it up.
