Matt, this would have been ideal for the road trip we did.

I think we talked about finding a solution that used regular radio for group comms a while back. But I was not aware of any MC headsets that did it at the time. The down side will be more static and distortion as the non-digital signal won't have the ability to do error correction. The up side is that when the signal gets weak you will still get something instead of it dropping completely. And no delay for reestablishing the link.

So, I looked it up and it would seem that it has been around for a while. The manual I could find had using the old channel list (pre-2017). I don't think this is a problem other than limiting power output on some channels lower than it needs to be. Of course if they still sell it, it may be fixed in the firmware by now.

Chatterbox has been around for a long time. They were always a pretty big/bulking device though which was one of the reasons the club never looked at them too closely. This new unit they have looks pretty good. Still big compared to other comm systems but nothing like it use to be.

I'll be interested in voice quality, vox response, and range when you do get to testing it. I think it has great potential.

The Collett's we used worked great using radio, they just didn't have a model with Bluetooth to connect to a phone or GPS. I think they do now. The units were still fairly large, though.
