opinions on b&w bike bar

Post by sanderr » Tue Oct 17, 2017 2:34 am

I just bought a used enclosed trailer, but using straps/tie down to secure my HD bike is a bit PITA to set up. Has anyone used the B&W hitches Bike Bar? What do you think about this product?

I agree that securing bikes with straps, ropes etc is a pain. My question with this device is will it drag in the corners?

I don't think you leave it on the bike. At least I hope not.

As far as I can tell, the bar works like a screw clamp, so you do take it off when not in use. That big handle looking thing sticking up from the end of the bar rotates around the bar and there is a screw shaft that pulls the two ends together. The two halves have ears on them the grab around structure (on a cruiser it would be the two frame rails under the engine) and hold the bar in place.

If you have a cruiser, or other bike that has the frame rails under the engine then I think this would probably work okay. I think it would depend on what the structure under the engine looks like and whether you are deforming the rails (i.e. pulling them towards each other) when you try to clamp down on them, or if there is a cross member keeping them at the right distance.

The base plate should be mounted to the trailer floor so that it won't move. This stuff is designed for HD bikes. I decided to order one and will post a review next time.
