DarcShadow wrote:Well giving the "huge" numbers that have turned out for my rides lately, I can just yell to the two guys behind me so I don't see a need for one.

On rides where the lead can see the tail, there really isn't a "need" for comms, it just becomes a nice to have thing, and it's not on my list of things I want. Between not listening to music and my phone's bluetooth interface being a piece of crap I have no need for it on my own, and little need for it on group rides.

And yeah, it is fun asking all the questions to see who will test it. You will notice I haven't said anything bad about them, just asking how they work in various situations. :)
I know Fixxer has his GPS configured with the scala. I am not sure if he can do that with the sena but if he can, that might be something that could interest you only because the GPS will tell you where your turn is instead of having to look down at your GPS to figure that out.

Keep those questions coming because you know the guys will test it for you and report back :D

Clearly you have not looked at my GPS setup. No bluetooth capability, No weather link, No voice prompts, No turn by turn directions, it just has the road, the waypoints I programed in, and an arrow pointing in the general direction of the next waypoint. But it works well enough for what I do with it and I see no reason to throw money at a newer unit.

Well.....that sounds like something on the wish list for xmas. I have seen it and I have seen you do a double take at a turn that we passed too, only to go down the road and do a u-turn. :-)

I'm not a fireman and don't need to be reached 24/7. If I'm not near a land line I don't need to talk to you. :)) I look at cell phones as there for my convience, not yours.

Na, I've got better things for my Christmas list. However, if you wanted to give me one, I would gladdly accept it. :)

Ha, DS and GPS. How do you think he hits all those dirt roads?

"Lunch feels like it should be...this way!" :SideSplittingLaughter:

DS, I felt the same way you do about helmet Bluetooth--I was really on the fence and ended up pulling the trigger on a whim. It was like when I bought my first smart phone--I didn't really see the point until I lived with one for a while, now I can't imagine living without one.

I use mine %95 of time for wireless music to my helmet. I don't really care to use it for talking, I ride my bike so I don't have to talk.

I've only had mine a few days and i love it for music. I can toggle through songs or play/pause. You can also say "play so & so song" and it will play it for you :)

That's assuming your phone/MP3 player supports voice commands.

They designed it to work specifically for the iphone. The things they show in the videos don't work on all smartphones.

Did they, or do they just advertise the crap any bluetooth device can do with an iPhone? The headset isn't doing anything fancy other than being able to make two different types of connections.

I meant as far as stopping/starting/pausing music. None of the commands worked on my phone. If music was playing and I got a phone call, it stopped the music, but did not continue playing after the call completed.

As of now I'm OUT of extra's, ever Sena has sold.

If you were slow to get on the band wagon stay in touch with me, I'm trying to work a deal now for future discounts for you people that didn't get on the ball with the group buy.

So can someone list the steps for pairing these things? I know how to pair two(i think), but i don't know how and in what order for 3 or more.

A B C

Close all channels (push jog button if you have a channel open)

A and B hold down jog button until they blink red
ONE person presses the jog button once, wait until the lights quit blinking red and sync blue

make sure the channel is closed

B and C hold down the jog buttons until they blink red
ONE person presses the jog button once, wait until the lights quit blinking red and sync blue

A pairs with B

B pairs with C

everyone now opens channel 1 with a single press of the job button, give things a minute to catch up it apparently is not instant, and B is the middle man.

To chain four it's the same

A --> B
B --> C
C --> D

Multiple jog button clicks puts you into the other channels so if you wanted to flip back and forth you could sync someone on channel one and someone on channel two but then you have to flip back and forth.

That's because you have a crappy stupid phone instead of an awesome phone.

The functionality has nothing to do with the Sena, it's all in how smart your phone is.

I don't even think it has to do with phone or the Sena, it's how smart the user is :SideSplittingLaughter:

Oh, and Jim and Will, you guys both called me while I was on the bike. So whatever you heard quality-wise, that's what you get from one of these in a Variant. :D

It works just fine here with the Windows Phone, iPad, and a Galaxy S. Full playback and transport controls. It's the Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) Bluetooth profile. No iOS specific anything.

Considering every video they have is using an iPhone, I would say it was specific to the iPhone. If they only used a Motorola Droid, I would say it was specific to the Droid. But it very well could be the app that I am using.
