ECR Track Night

Post by 111 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 3:41 pm

Anyone doing the Night event with Tracktactics at ECR? I was thinking about signing up for this. Hopefully the Temperature won't be too bad, I've not had the chance to do a night ride anywhere.

Would this be with headlights or floodlights?

Apparently they bring in flood lights to light up the track. Headlights only would be...interesting...and probably scary as hell. :-x

Yes, CMRA has cancelled their upcoming round at ECR due to safety concerns, and 3Ts is following suit.

So is it me, or has ecr become even worse in the last 6months. I love the layout don't get me wrong. Maybe it was because we had half the track shut down due to water and I had to change lines. I don't know. Might be in my head due to all the talk, but I wasn't feeling it last time

Ridesmart and EMTD both put up cones in the following turns for thier events. Turns 1 and 2. short straight between turns 4 and 5. Turn 8, Turn 9 and Turn 10. The cones were put up to avoid the seepage that is still a problem. On the Ridesmart sunday event I corner worked. There was a delay in the afternoon session start due to CMRA representatives and the owner of ECR doing a track drive and looking at the turns with seepage. Fast forward 5 days later the post from CMRA showed up on thier members only message board the September CMRA event was cancelled at ECR.

I rode level 2 with EMTD on Saturday at ECR with the cones in a similar location as the weekend before. Thank goodness no one got tied up with one of these cones (especially me). The cones seemed to be the best solution to a bad situation. I am sure Shaun has more input on the cone placement.

I will continue to ride ECR with the cones in place. It just means that my pace will be slow thru these areas. I need seat time. I guess I will continue to work on double apex left hand turns, 1 off camber left hand turn and some straight line riding.

On the subject of cones.... I nearly got taken out twice by them! Both were hit by someone in front and then both hit the teacher I was following. Then I had to play dodge not to hit them. It was nerve racking coming around a corner having to go between knocked over cones and wondering if they were going to be in the same place every time.

I don't generally dislike ECR; the layout is great, and the elevation changes are fun. That said, at some point the condition of the track does become a serious safety issue, and that point has been reached this year. When we last raced there in April, the seepage caused a ridiculous number of crashes, including some serious injuries. Unless the track is properly fixed - which would require a significant investment - I don't think that we are going to be able to race it again anytime soon.

I have been told the owner is planning to take the bad sections of the track completely out and replace with concrete.... wouldn't this be a bad thing?

It won't be any worse than the concrete patches they have now.
