I don't really think it is going to be a significant difference on the MPG. I've only put a few hundred miles on it since I changed the sprocket, but I haven't noticed any real difference in the MPG.

I actually have decent acceleration in all of the gears now, including 6th. Therefore, I have found that when going through a corner or downshifting in traffic, I don't have to go to 3rd or even 2nd sometimes to get the acceleration I need. I am now down shifting to 4th and 3rd which has made riding somewhat more enjoyable.

If you look at it more mathematically opposed to just -1 on the front. You will see that you'll lose 6.26% if you go -1 or an additional 389 RMP @ 80MPH. However, if you don't like it you could always do a -1/-1 (16/44) and that will change you to 3.89 difference from stock. Or even a -1/-2 which would still be 1.53 percent more than stock, but I think that difference would be so little it wouldn't be worth it.

In short, I say go for the -1 on the front and if you think it is too much bump it down one on the rear as well. Get the front dropped 1 and then you can "fine tune" it by removing or adding to the rear which is much easier.

EDIT: My -1 was also more change than yours would be since I was already running a 43 tooth on the rear(stock on the 600) . My -1 was a 6.67% where as yours would be a 6.26% change.
