I have wanted to try MSRH at least once. Glad I checked the RS webpage, level 1 is at limited availability, so anyone who is up for this sign up soon. Also you may note that it is a Clock Wise day.

Hell Seth, I'm sure you are getting as excited as I am!

I have a late-breaking halftime family commitment at the AHS football game on Friday night so I will end up hitting the pillow at about 10 pm until 0100 then its time to drive to MSRH. I think we have medical grade IV caffeine at the hospital, I may need some.....

That sounds rough. I will save you a spot. I am leaving Friday after work.

That was a blast. We got a little wet track time, but this track dried fast. Below is a picture from the top of “the launch”.

It was an interesting, FUN day. My first mistake was buying into the "If it's your first day at this track get a shirt and work with an instructor" BS. I told the guy it would be a complete waste of our time for him to follow me but I would love to just follow him! He said, "OK" You can guess what happened. Mine was the first video up and SURPRISE! There was one point in the beat down when I reminded him um.. "This is my first secession (other than RR) at this track" In the afternoon sessions I tried to get in Quan's group, but it seemed everyone else had the same Idea.

My previous day at MSRC I think I remember talking about how "not a single retrieval occurred that day." Jeff, Matt can fact check me on that one. Different story here, I saw multiple bikes in pieces. Two bikes in front of me a guy went down hard in the turn right after "the launch" pictured above. It required some evasive maneuvering and a prayer that the bike behind me was not about to take me out. There were a number of runoffs.

For those who don't know MSRH, between turns 6 and 7 is "the back straight" yup, even slow guys like me get up to 120-130mph. We are at the end of the post-lunch session, the checkered flag is up, I could hear an outside passer coming up open throttle on the left when the bike in front of me continues his drift to the outside and once again I am hoping that the bike behind me can see what is about to happen! With his front forks compressed and his rear end starting to shake, he felt his rear tire coming up off the track(get a GoPro shane!) and was within inches of the back tire in front of him when he was able to match speed with the bike that is now right in front of him! I think by his actions to say he was out of his mind with rage would be a correct assessment! I looked for him in class to ask him about it but I didn't see him again???? Question, for you veteran track riders, wouldn't that have been his fault? I don't think the rider who narrowly missed being rear-ended even knew it happened.... What do you guys think about always leaving a passing lane on the outside as a personal standard of practice for that guy with the lethal closing speed making the outside pass on a long straight? This is level one after all.

This was coming out of a turn onto the straight? If so then I don't know why the fast guy wouldn't have anticipated the front guy drifting out to the edge. Was the front guy more or less on the line?

Yes, out of a turn onto the longest straight of the track. Maybe he was hoping/ASSuming the drifter would not go all the way to the outside of the track??? I agree he should have anticipated the possibility that the rider in front of me would continue to drift to the outside before it he had to go to such breaking extremes.

So long as the guy in front didn't make a sudden change then yeah, it would have been totally the guy behind's fault. The key in this situation is one you are past the apex, the outside only passing thing no longer applies, the "turn" is over. So all he had to do was come down a little on the inside and he would have been just fine.
