Motorcycle Insurance, it's pricing time of year.

Just out of curiosity, post up the rough amount you're paying for full coverage motorcycle insurance...

I just moved from State Farm after they decided to raise my rates by 35% for no reason (no accidents, credit score is increasing, nothing on my record, no claims since I started with them in '06). I went from paying $79/mo in '06, every year increasing to them now wanting $145/mo. PASS!

I now switched over to Dairyland. I'm back to paying $78/mo for the same coverage I had with State Farm. Practically half the cost!

I've been using State Farm since 2000 and have everything through them, cars, house, umbrella, and personal articles. I currently pay $536 every 6 months, $89/month.

I have another question, how many of you pay for insurance monthly? Any time any one talks about it they always talk about cost per month but I don't recall ever having that option. Closest I can do is a 6 month policy paid in two payments

I'm with State Farm, and like DarcShadow have all of my insurance with them. When I got the bike, I had the option of monthly payments, 6 months, or 12 months. The longer period that you go with will bring the price down. I went with the 6month just do to available cash at the time. It's costing me around $460. If my memory serves me correctly, it would have cost me another $15 a month going month to month.

I have always done monthly. You can typically save some money by doing a 6-month or 1-year lump sum all up front, but I hate saving money. Heh, nah it's because I don't have several hundred to throw down when I renew insurance. Usually I'm switching insurance because I'm broke heh... Except this time :D

Dairyland only charges me a dollar extra each month for paying monthly I believe. I don't recall them giving a deep discount for paying all up front like the others.

Oh, and I tried to go to State Farm and bring everything to them. I get full coverage on my truck with all the bells and whistles through Progressive for $68/mo... State Farm couldn't even get close. So even with all my vehicles, house, everything, State Farm would still be more expensive than if I have different insurance through different folks.

It still makes me sick that a $31,000 truck, that weighs several tons, costs me LESS to insure than a $11,000 bike that doesn't even weigh 1/4 ton.

Now the one thing State Farm doesn't do is lump motorcycle and automobile insurance. The write those under seperate policies.

Did you take your homeowners insurance to them also? That's where the big auto discounts come from. If you have both Auto & Home policies with them, they tend to discount them pretty well. Also having multiple vehicles on the same policy offers some really nice discounts. But unfortionatly, as I already stated, they don't do motorcycle and auto on the same policy so no multi vehicle discount there.

I actually got a quote from them for having everything with them, and when I broke it all down, my home insurance for the same coverage I have would have reduced my annual premium by $50 over what I have, and would have raised my truck insurance by about $30/mo over what I was paying Progressive, and my bike insurance would have lowered by about $5/mo.

For whatever reason, State Farm is just not competitive for me. I don't know why this is.

35 for full on the 650 and I think its 60something for the 1000. All with progressive. I like you had state farm up until I bought my house. Then I decided to take a chance and see what was out there. I ended up getting cheaper ins all the way around by kicking the farm to the curb.
:D

I pay $79/mo for full coverage on the bike with State Farm. I used to have everything with State Farm but they kept raising rates on me every 6 months. Now I only have the bike with State Farm. I need to check prices again. When I switched, State Farm was still the lowest I could find on the bike.

That's 3 of us now with State Farm in the same ball park as Dairy Land. Guess State Farm just didn't want your buisness Firewa11. :-? Maybe they heard the rumors.

Actually, Miles brought up a good point. I get confused with Denton county because I share a ZIP code with Roanoke, which is in Denton county. Dairyland asked me what county I lived in... which is Tarrant. Maybe that's why the rate is cheaper? Motorcycle rates might be more expensive in Denton because (no offense Miles) you're more likely to have your bike stolen in Denton county? Or because it's got all the UNT rejects? Or both?

No offense taken. I think it's just a big college town with a higher amount of theft and more kids going out drinking and then getting on the bike only to crash it.

I've been with State Farm for years and was never really picky about the price.

I should probably go ahead and shop around, somebody else may be able to give me a lot better deal. I've got two bikes, a car, and renter's through State Farm, and probably adding another bike in the near future.

I used to be picky about insurance until I had an at-fault wreck and State Farm screwed me over. So much for them being 'better quality'. I personally love Progressive.

Yeah, that's the crappy thing, you never really know how good your company is till something happens. And even then, a lot of times the agent you deal with can make a large difference. Knock on wood but so far I haven't had an at-fault incident and I've been taken care of reasonably well for the wrecks I have had where stupid god damn f*cking bitch driving didn't have insurance. (sorry, still have some pent up anger. :-o :)) :-x  )

Yeah, and unfortunately you have to pay a hefty premium for uninsured motorist protection. I think getting caught without insurance is too lenient a crime. I personally feel they should revoke your license for at least 90 days if you're caught without it. As a result more people would get insured out of fear of losing their license, and in turn insurance rates will drop. And a reduction in "no insurance accidents" and rates for uninsured protection drops.

people who dont have insurance would not buy insurance to keep their license. They would continue to drive without insurance, and then when caught, they would drive without a valid lisence and just complicate things more.

There are also other factors they look at on insurance pricing for a motorcycle. How long you've been riding, as well as storage location. Your insurance will be cheaper if it's garage kept over being parked outside, and the longer you've been riding the cheaper it gets.
