Ride it. Maybe it'll resolve itself. Let someone from the club - Miles has a 675, WillK has a 675. Let one of them ride it around Thursday at Bike Night (2-Beer Limit) and report back. Maybe ride theirs next to yours then.

Ok -An update.

Borrowed a better dial indicator from one of my technicians at one of my dealerships. Turns out I had about runout on the exterior face of the rotors of .007" on the left and about .011". Using a tool and some physical pressure, I was able to get each rotors external face down to about .003" on each side. I still want to double check for thinkness variations, but that'll wait for another day....

I was just about go test it out, but I noticed this little beauty as I rolled the bike off the stands. Good news as it doesn't appear to have punctured the steel carcass as the tire is at the exact same PSI I set it to the last time I went on a ride, and I can feel the intruder to the right side for about 1/2" through the rubber! Either way I'll dismount it and check it out before riding on it again.

Are you testing for thickness variations on the rotor anytime they are new, old, or you run into problems such as you described (i.e. how often does one do this)? I don't have anything helpful to add, I would like to learn as much as I can on the mechanical side and I am enjoying this particular post.

Just when there is an issue. It's just part of the diagnosis process to narrow down my issues.

Good news, yanked out the nail. Didn't puncture. Went in sideways. Still gonna keep my eye on it though....

I check the thickness often really. Always scared I might loose some thickness..... O wait... ummm yea rotors. That isnt something you do without a problem. On a bike you normally dont even turn rotors or anything like that.

LOL niiiiice. Is there a special tool for that? (Check rotor thickness ) Don talked with me about the rotors and not turning them on the bike. I was curiuos because if my breaks had a wobble or vibration when I applied them then I would look at the tires, pads, then rotors. Now if I squeezed the break and it felt different than usual then I'd check the lines first. Because my troubleshooting approach was different I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I want to make sure I can take care of my girl!

Just had to replace a tire with less than 1000 miles on it for the same crap. Mine held air until the staple finally came out.

So i have reduced my Vibration to levels that I can accept!

I replaced the rotors today with used ones off of an 06. Same mechanical spec's, but different color/pattern on the webbing. Just un-boxed them and installed them, no surface prep. All my high speed shakes are gone, but I still have some slow speed minor shudders on the brakes. I can live with that after my teeth knocking is gone!

Nice, it's good to here you found the problem. Might give the brake pads a bit to "mate" with the rotors and the slow speed shudders might go away as well... Or maybe get worse ha!

I had a nail in the rear tire a few weeks ago, almost dead center. Tire had half the tread left. I said fuck it and plugged it. I've put 600 more miles on it no problem.

Yeah, it's probably not a good idea , but I'm not track riding it either so I'll take the risk.

I've ridden plugged tires no problem. I wouldn't worry about it on the street. But I'm not going to go to the track on a plugged tire.

Yeah, I've done a lot of riding on a plugged tire...stuff I shouldn't have done most likely. Always held up well in the heat of summer.

Yeah I got lucky and didn't have to plug mine. I wouldn't feel very safe with a "through the tire patch" for anything more than the ride home. When I was a tech we had a patch that went on the inside and pulled through, but then had a 2 inch round part that you would glue in. Never had an issue with those, and even started finding ones with upwards of 40,000 miles on jobs I had done earlier and were now having new tires put on.

I'm with you. I'd trust a plugged and patched tire way more than just a plugged tire. For normal street riding, and moderate back-road riding. I'd trust a plugged tire. But anything beyond that. Hell No! A plugged and patched tire, I'd do a trackday on.

I wouldn't trust a patched tire for anything on the track. Way to much heat and stress to risk it. Street riding though? I'd do it.
