Fort Worth Motorcycle Riders

When you're coming to a stop, do you prefer to put your left foot on the ground, keeping your right foot on the rear brake, or, do you prefer to use just the front brake and plant both feet on the ground?

I've been playing with both, sometimes I do just the left foot if I have to stop faster so I can use both breaks. Other times if it's a slow stop I just swing out both feet plant them on the ground when I finally stop (very helpful in stop and go traffic). I have found that if I'm stopping on uneven/broken pavement it's better to have both feet out or it's a bit unstable...*cough, clutch, cough*

Is it a situational thing or just a riding style thing?

Actually, and I'm not trying to cause you learning problems when I say this...but I actually spend a lot of time practicing no feet down at all...just clutch/throttle modulation while trying to maintain balance while barely moving. Different strokes for different folks, but I always found this to be a good exercise to help with balance at low speeds. You may not be ready for that yet, but something to consider as you get more comfortable.

Situational also. Sometimes left down, sometimes right down, sometimes both down, sometimes none down.

Depends on the bike too--I tend to get both feet down more on heavier bikes, just to be on the safe side. Light bikes I'll just touch a toe.

LOL thanks again guys I like that bit about pretending it's a game and using no feet (like the box!). I have done that in slow traffic and got quite a bit of pratice with the comfort zone that way. I only touch down if I'm having to stop completely. As always, thank you so much for your input!

I love it when I can come to a complete stop at a stop sign and not ever take a toe off of the bike, and then start going again. Of course when I fail I look like a total ass yanking my foot off of the peg to catch it. Speaking of looking like an ass... Damned shift paterns... Does anyone have that vid?

I tend to steer to the right a tiny bit as I come to a stop so that the bike just falls to the left side and just put the left one down. I like using the rear brake to hold the bike still. I don't think it matters much though. Do it how you like and what is comfy and if it works well it is as good as any other.

I do the same thing except steer to the left and use my right leg. If I'm at a long light and the car behind me has stopped, I'll pop it in neutral and sit up with both feet down.

Miles has incorrect shift, I have GP shift, swap bikes at a stop light and que the blooper music.
