Here's the actual announcement:

http://insideevs.com/harley-davidson-re ... le-wvideo/

Harley-Davidson Project LiveWire

Harley-Davidson Project LiveWire

“You don’t know where the line is until you cross it.”

States Harley-Davidson in revealing its first-ever electric motorcycle called Project LiveWire.

Harley-Davidson adds:

“Let’s unleash a new kind of freedom into the world. Let’s re-imagine the possibilities and re-imagine the ride. Project LiveWire. This is electric the way only Harley-Davidson® would do it. By getting on the street with other riders to discover how heart-pounding and soul-satisfying we can make the ride. Do you want in?”

Lastly, Harley-Davidson states:

“See it. Hear it. Feel it.”

“The Project LiveWire Experience begins a 30-city tour across America starting June 24th in New York City, where riders will be invited to take a historic ride. The first few stops have been announced below and the full 2014 US tour schedule will be announced in the next week.”

Sadly, those are all the details available at this time on Project LiveWire.

Them lucky fellas over at Wired already got the chance to test drive Project LiveWire. Here are a few highlights from Wired’s seat time:

“It doesn’t sound anything at all like a proper Harley—or a “fighter jet landing on an aircraft carrier” as Harley brass say—but it’s got a futuristic sound that brings to mind an airliner taking to the air.”

“…it’ll hit 60 mph in under four seconds and it’s got more style than other electrics we’ve ridden.”

“…this isn’t a production model. Not yet, anyway. Harley is taking a few dozen LiveWires on a tour, dubbed Project LiveWire, of the United States and Europe.”

“The LiveWire offers 74 horsepower, 52 foot-pounds of torque and a (governed) top speed of 92 mph.”

“…the bike uses a lithium-ion battery with a range of 53 miles. It charges in 3.5 hours at 220 volts. Assuming the bike has a 3.3 kw charging system like other electric motorcycles, some back-of-the-envelope math suggests the LiveWire uses a 10 kilowatt-hour pack.”

This is just a prototype model, not production ready. Could be interesting if they do decide to produce one.

I'm shocked they don't have a fake Harley rumble soundtrack built into it.

Pre-production. I bet they add it on the production model.

They'll need to add a vibrater to along with the fake sound.

Random bolts falling off here and there (you can buy more at the dealership), and of course the prerequisite oil leak.

I guess the moral for anyone wanting to buy one...you still have to ride at the back of the line.

They'll add an oil reservoir and overly complex computer controled valve system to drip oil at random times. The system will also have a sensor to let you know when the reservoir is getting low and will prevent the bike from running till you top it off with HD licensed oil.

Yes, but that's going to be an added cost option to the bike, that comes standard on all production models.

If someone there is a smarty and can get away with it, they'll add a Twin-bob tank full of batteries and some bags on it, full of batteries and get 200 miles out of a charge. THEN ppl will line up to buy it, but even now I'd bet they will sell every one they make.
-
Down the street from the office they sell the Zero bike. Electric, 80 miles (at best) to a charge. Touch smaller than a 250cc. I'd buy it in a minute if they would price it under $4k. They are asking $10k.
