Had a good time riding with y'all today. I really like that route for a short ride. Sorry about the tire, but can't express how thankful it is to have y'all with me. Thanks again

Before Cresson I had a new rear installed. That day when I got home it had what appeared to be a staple just a little off center. Wasn't sure if it was just in the surface of the tread, but I left it alone. I rode both track days on it, no problem. Then I rode the Sunday ride (you know, the one no one else showed up for), and parked the bike.

When I return from vacation...there sits a completely flat rear tire. WTF!

I look and I can no longer see the staple, but what I think is a small spot where it was. Air it up, apply some soapy water, and viola...blub, blub, blub goes the hole. So I can sympathize. :-o

Now a question. The tire has plenty of good tread. Is there a Nazi club rule against riding with a plugged tire if it holds air, all else being good with the tire? :HeadScratch:

Why didn't you pull the staple when you first found it?

Club rides are ok with a plugged tire but I wouldn't suggest a trackday at anything above a level 1 pace and even that might be pushing it.

After blowing a plug I'm just not so sure I'd try it again

There's a couple of problems with this statement. First, Why would you blow a plug in the first place. Second, after blowing a plug your just not so sure you'd try it again. Does not mean you kind of sort of liked it? Wait a minute don't answer that. I don't want to know about who or what you blowing.

It wasn't leaking, I wasn't sure if it was more than a surface issue, and if it wasn't, then I was going to create a leak (which it eventually did). No good answer beyond that.

You should work on your plug installation technique.

All the more reason to pull it it, assuming you are safe at home. If it's not leaking, pulling it will probably not be a problem. If pulling it does result in a leak then it is a good think you pulled it and now know about the hole that needs repaired. Unless you're out in the middle of no where, with no way to repair a leak you should always remove FOD from your tire before it does any serious damage.

It's possible that removing it would have resulted in nothing, waiting just drove the staple deeper as the tire wore guaranteeing a puncture at some point.

Yeah, that was my thought. Riding on it may have caused the leak.

It didn't leak until it came out...but point made, and taken.
