What would you buy? GAME #1 $6000
So there are no exact rules to this game, just a few guide lines. You get $6000 to spend on CURRENT items in ebay(or sold, but has to show what it sold for and be within a month of todays date 11/28/14). You can buy ONE or AS MANY bikes just so long as you do not go over the mark. There has to be a buy now price to purchase or the reserve has to be met, in which case you need to add $1000 per every $10000 of the bike. EXAMPLE: the reserve has been met on a GSXR and the price is $6395 currently...add $1000 and the "buy now" or your "purchase price" would be $7395. Let's say it's a a new ducati and the reserve has been lifted, the current price is $21933, you would add $2000 to make the total purchase price that you paid...$23933 If it's a "best offer", you can take $500 of the buy now price for every $5000. Extra money left over can be used to buy parts if you want to list something. NO CRAIGSLIST
Remember that this has to be the only motorcycle or motorcycle"s" you can ever have in your garage, you can never buy another bike. They have to run. Post links down below with the bike listed above the link.

$5200(best offer price) 2006 Triumph speed triple
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triumph-Speed-T ... otorcycles" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I chose this bike because for an all around bike it's amazing. Tons of low end power for around town, comfortable other than no windshield, still have a good time on the track and it's cheap. Not to mention it has a classic, but still modern looking style.
$800 1987 Honda XR
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-XR-1987-h ... otorcycles" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I didn't see any point spending the full $6000 on one bike. After setting my filters this was the best dirt bike i could come up with. It's old, but in great shape. It will make for a good trail bike and just overall fun.
I did really well this time, total of $6000 spent. It will be interesting to see the money limit goes up and down how people will choose what they buy.

Re: What would you buy? GAME #1 $6000
nice, not a bad idea. It would be really an all around bike with the extra wheels. Travel long distance, off road, track, street all of which it would be ok at. Only thing i feel like it would be missing is the hard hitting power and +100 speeds

Apparently they'll do 100 with the standard engine mods and proper gearing. Not a whole lot more, but I don't break the ton often anyway.
The DR650 is probably my next bike for dirt and track day duty.

Re: What would you buy? GAME #1 $6000
Most likely this:
2001 Suzuki GSX-R (current bid $2550, reserve not met, no buy it now)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-GSX-R-20 ... otorcycles" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I found three that I'd go for but I chose this as my top pick. While it is the oldest, it came in 2nd place for mileage and was in the middle for price. What caught me is that this (supposedly) belonged to one rider alone who, by all intents and purposes according to his spiel, took very good care of his baby. I'd be more apt to buy a bike from someone who is meticulous about such things. It'll probably be a sound purchase choice.
With left over funds (in order of importance):
1. Tags/reg
2. Pay to have bike looked over by a professional mechanic who would be able to spot issues the average layman would most likely miss. Any serious red flags, use funds to replace parts as needed.
3. (If needed, new tires) + Tune up
4. After market accessories (levers, stickers, lights, etc.)
5. New fairings or paint job
6. Upgrade riding gear
7. Lowering Kit

Re: What would you buy? GAME #1 $6000
01 is too old to invest upgrade money into it, for 6K you can get much newer hardware, I've seen 08 CBR's up for 4K - my opinion. no slipper, no damper, carbs, old seals, most likely suspension needs rebuilt if the previous owner has not done it. Nothing wrong with an 01, but buying an 01 then dumping money into it to upgrade it - you'd be better off buying newer and paying more.

Yeah, what he said.
You can buy a late 2000's 600 all day long for $5k-6k. I paid $5k for my 2008 ZX6R that needed a new set of tires and did a whole track season.

Re: What would you buy? GAME #1 $6000
I paid $3.5k for my '04 GSXR with 11k miles. That was a nice bike. I made it even nicer and sold it for $3.5k with 16k miles. Truth be told you should have bought it. It had upgrades to the suspension, exhaust, dyno tune, sprockets, brakes, levers, fender eliminator, integrated tail lights, LED front signals, sliders etc. Damned nice bike. I miss it sometimes. It was sexy.

I'd be ok with that. I nearly bought a dedicated track bike this spring anyways. Just didn't have a truck at the time so I passed.

I think I've got to go old-school considering the budget. Spent 1/2 of mine here.
